Artist description
Following the tradition of bands such as Chicago, Alabama, or Kansas, Flint Michigan named themselves after a geographical place; however, they don't live there. The city of Flint, Michigan is located in the heart of America's industrial rust belt and represents a hard-working blue-collar ethic; Flint Michigan, the group, is centrally located in the heart of the rock and roll universe, combining the best elements of rock, blues, folk, improvisational music, and a hard-working blue collar ethic. The indie music fanzine Musichead writes, "This rambunctious rock 'n roll animal is quickly perking up ears in the NJ/NYC club scene and festival circuit. Maybe it's the interplay of its snarling guitars, its ability to shift gears or the pure rocking energy that flows from a live performance." They consider themselves to be like a nineties version of The Band, combining the best elements of rock's roots with the loftier aspirations of modern rock. |

Press Reviews
Geoff Cabin, Rock Beat International, Fall 1998: The last few years have seen something of a resurgence in roots-oriented rock, and Amber Waves by Flint Michigan stands out as one of the best and most distinctive releases in the genre. The band plays in a poppy country-rock style reminiscent of The Byrds, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Neil Young. The album is filled with great songs, and the singing and playing are top-notch throughout, as well. This is one of the most pleasant surprises to come across my desk this year -- very highly recommended. ------ Northwest New Jersey Music Association: CD of the Year ------ Lydia Carole DeFretos, East Coast Rocker/Aquarian Weekly: Top 10 Local Releases of 1998 |
