Artist description
The Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra is a unique
youth orchestra composed of young people in grades
6 - 12 in the United States. What makes the Virginia
Youth Symphony Orchestra so unique is two-fold: first,
it mixes these diverse grades and ages of young players
together into one orchestra - creating a mentoring orchestra
where younger players are helped by older players, and vice-
versa. Second, is its approach to repertoire and performance.
The Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra only performs 'real'
literature - no dumbed-down, easier versions, and, it performs
an astonishing array of music - from classical to Broadway,
scores with rock-bands, jazz ensembles, choirs, etc.
(In fact, Music Director Robert Ian Winstin has won numerous
awards and honors for his programming.) |
