Artist History Few emerging recording artists can boast that their very first demo introducing them to the music industry was produced by one of Latin music's most renowned producers but Amy Sanchez can. If you ask anyone who has ever met Amy to describe her they will tell you that she is a young woman with captivating energy and profound depth. She goes beneath the surface with her music. There is a serious undertone to Amy's lyrics and her music can also make audiences laugh because of it's candidness. "I am not just a singer up on stage", she says, "I try to connect with my audiences by expressing the thoughts that run through people's minds that they never have the guts to let out". Her insights are conveyed through her sensual vibrant voice and the way she manipulates sound is sometimes poetic, sometimes theatrical, and always from the heart. Amy's magnetic personality, passionate voice and energetic performance really shone through in late 2000, when she was selected as the winner (out of 1,000 candidates) of Miami radio station Y-100's BIG BREAK CONTEST. "I called up the station to find out more about the contest and they auditioned me right there on the phone", she recalls. Amy made it into one of the 48 semi-finalist slots and for 4 weeks, the 48 semi-finalists sang live on the Y-100 Morning Show. All of South Florida participated by calling in their opinions and voting for Amy on Y-100's website. At the end of the 4 weeks, Y-100 and producer Emilio Estefan chose Amy among the 3 finalists. Next, Amy was invited to Y-100's annual "Footy's Wing Ding" where she performed in front of 15,000 people, won over the crowd, and impressed guest celebrities Jon Secada, Meredith Brooks, and Latin Grammy award-winning producer, Freddy Pinero,Jr. A few days later, Y-100's Footy announced that Amy had won the talent search and she was awarded a record demo deal with world-renowned producer, Emilio Estefan. Estefan has produced records for many artists including Ricky Martin, Shakira, Mandy Moore, and of course, Gloria Estefan. In May 2001, Amy recorded the demo at Estefan's Cresent Moon Studios in Miami. "I really loved working with Emilio. He made me feel so comfortable in the studio. All of Emilios's staff at Crescent Moon welcomed me with open arms". Amy's demo debuted recently on Y-100's Morning Show wih a live interview and it has sparked much interest from labels, A&R people, and producers. "This contest has opened up a lot of doors for me," Amy says. Amy's diverse background has added to her musical stylings. Born and raised in Miami to a Cuban father and an American-born actress/director mother, amy was always involved in plays her mother was directing or other community projects. Therefore, she became immersed in musical theater, following in her mother's footsteps. Her musical background has allowed her to develop amazing versatility, and gave her the opportunity to perform many genres including Pop, Latin, Rock, Folk, Country, Musical Theatre, and Classical. Amy's first love of pop music came at age 6 when she discovered Billy Joel. His clever lyrics and ingenious melodies led her to study piano. At 6 1/2 years old she could play and sing all of the songs from her favorite musical, "Annie". These days she includes songwriters Jewel, Alanis Morissette, and Paula Cole as major influences. Amy graduated with degrees in musical theatre from the New World School of the Arts and Florida State University. She has received both awards for outstanding achievement in acting and singing. She is also an experienced voice-over actress, and has done work for a Disney project among others. Amy can be seen performing throughout Florida with her band. "I am so thrilled to be playing with my new band! They're a rockin' bunch", she exclaims. She is currently recording more songs in both English and Spanish to add to her demo. Plans are in the wroks to present the demo to Major record labels in early 2002. "This demo CD is a great debut for me because it will be fully produced and it will contain work I am very proud of. The songs center around relationships of all kinds...I have had many people come in and out of my life who have influenced and touched my heart in may ways. This demo will be a dedication to those who have helped me down this often rocky road toward singer-songwriter recognition and success. Everyone can relate to these songs. I believe music can be a cure, a needed escape, and a motivator. It goes way beyond just entertainment. It can instigate change if the audiences are willing to listen. It can help make the world a better place".
