Artist History
Myopia has set a new standard in what live music connoisseurs consider a
stage show. Voted as the #1 rock band in Central Ohio by WBZX 99.7 The
Blitz and (most importantly) the fans, Myopia has become a highly-flavored
act in Ohio. Sharing the stage with acts including Staind, Buckcherry,
Oleander, Monster Magnet, and Saliva to name a few. Myopia continues to
overwhelm crowds with their high voltage pop rock.
It all began in the early 90s in a minute, poverty stricken town
of Foraker, OH. John England (vocalist) an adopted son of two devout
Christians, was cramped in a small house with two other siblings in a town
without a stoplight. Poverty stricken but a happy Christian family, John
became pressured by his parents with the strict devote Christian life.
Stumbling across his adopted brotherıs record player buried in his
parentsı closet he began to listen to sounds of Iron Madden, The Doors, and
Led Zeppelin which would forever change his life.
With the strict rules of his parents he kept his new found inspiration to
himself in fear of punishment of his parents and persisted his love for
music. From that day John continued to write poems and rough songs which
expressed his "restricted" life at home.
A couple of years later John's parents moved to another small
town of Mt. Victory, Ohio, where John met classmate Greg Braun (drums) and a
friendship grew. Greg was no stranger to music, son of an artist/musician,
Greg began his music career before the age of 3. Greg and John soon talked
about their mutual love for music and the idea of a band arose.
With the recruitment of Greg's younger brother Luke Braun (bass),
who was also no stranger to music, they began to practice in the Braun's
home.
For months the boys practiced with the hope of sending their positive
message to fans. With the doubting attitude of family and friends of their
success only motivated the boys further. Struggling with a name that would
best suit the band an idea came to John as he was looking threw his motherıs
nursing books. He came across the word Myopia.
Myopia: lack of discernment or long-range perspective in thinking or
planning.
As John read on he knew that the Myopia best fit everyone's perception of
the band.
In the summer 1999 Myopia released their freshman album Radius and
it soon became a hit with fans of all ages. The CD received rave reviews
from fans and press alike. The first print of Radius was sold out in only
three months. (With radio stations in Ohio playing their single "Swahili
Man" it was all the band could do to keep up with sales.)
With the recent release of Superhero, stations across the Midwest
have been spinning the released single "Superhero" with an overwhelming
response. With strong record sales, a growing fan base, and most
importantly great music, Myopia will be a band to represent the Midwest for
years to come.
