Artist History Born in London, England, an only child, Benny developed his love for music quite early, whether it was a concert or the opera, no one even knew a baby was around as he was quiet throughout the whole performance watching and listening. He lived there until the age of five, when his family moved to Barbados, where he spent most of his very modest childhood and developed his love for music. Raised on the island by two God-fearing aunts, including an aunt who is a pastor, Gospel music became his first major musical influence. From the age of 8, he sang lead and learned how to harmonize in his church's choir. Participating in choir and theatrical musical productions became an integral part of his teenage years. In high school he began writing ballads, one of which won 25th place in the 1999 World-wide Music Award for Freedom song-writing contest. He formed a four part a-cappella group, called Contrast at the suggestion of his high school chorus teacher, and their fame spread throughout Malden, Ma., but the group disbanded after graduation. After high school, he gained additional singing experience competing in talent and karaoke shows, performing in more musical stage productions, and entertaining at private parties and wedding receptions. He also formed another group, dubbed Final Touch. We performed at various clubs and bars in the greater Boston area. Today, he goes by the stage name, Benny S., a solo artist and still very avid songwriter. His songs are inspired mostly by real life, but he also has the talent to write about any subject he is given. Performing in music showcases has become a great way to develop his growing fan base, which is comprised of both the young and the young at heart! He makes appearances by special request, including church functions and parties. Musical goals include writing songs for and singing back-up for a major recording artist, and/or landing a major recording contract. His styles are R&B/Soul, Adult Contemporary. Musical influences include Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Johnny Gill, BackStreet Boys, Tyrese, and Joe. He is also an actor with growing credits to his name.
