Music Style Dada Punk Pop Freakout

Artist History As bored high school students in the 1980s, Mike Coleman and Chris Gissendanner began recording and selling tapes locally in Tallahassee, FL. Under the name the Singing Spoons, they created some very strange, unsettling music. Eventually, the Singing Spoons became a four-piece rock band, which put out the exceptional album "Resin Cabin" on Manufacture Records in 1989. When the Spoons broke up in 1992, Coleman and Gissendanner teamed up with drummer Kelly Shane (of the punk/prog Zen Lemmings) to form Ultraboy. Along with fuzzed-out guitar, intricate bass/drums interplay, oddly placed improvisations, and full-on drive, live Ultraboy shows also featured dada deconstruction of traditional rock performances and some very odd in-between song patter. The band played its last show in December of 1993, as soon after, Chris moved out of state. Mike and Kelly still make music together as the Newsboy Legion. Mike also records and performs as Canard. Kelly is currently in Solution Science Systems and the New Albanian Riots and records solo electronic music as Enemy From Space. Chris is studying worm gonads while working on his Ph.D. The Tampa band M'Lod wrote a song about Ultraboy on their "White Noises in a White Room" album. Though they haven't performed together in over 8 years, the Ultraboy claims they have never broken up and are only on sabbatical.
