Artist History
Nashville wasn't ready for songs like Open Minds Open Sores, so Milo headed for Atlanta to retreat further into obscurity and the confines of his studio apartment.. Long lost friends began recieving morose four-track cassette recordings in the mail. Eve ntually, Milo graduated to digital recording and CD releases to further his obsession. No one noticed. He was found later, under a pile of CD-Rs, withered to the bone, but still breathing. –ΩÔÃ≈Q∂m |

Press Reviews
By Jennifer Kelly / SPLENDID E-ZINE / May 21, 2002 -- Milo's medication isn't working. It says so right
on the CD. Oh, wait, that's a song title, not part
of Milo the bio. Never mind. Anyway, whatever
drugs Milo is taking, he should keep it up. Smell
the Parade is one of the most enjoyably weird
listening experiences I've had in ages.
This lo-fi songwriter's album is original, yet rife
with references. Musically, Milo flits from hitting
on the Death by Chocolate girl ("Minimalist") to
trying on hair-metal spandex ("Mirko's Car"), to
trading sordid memories with Willie Nelson
("Open Mind Open Sores") to making faces at
the Magnetic Fields ("New Panties").
Milo's voice and accompaniment are perfectly
adequate, but what you really want to hear
about on this disc are the lyrics, which are
extremely sophisticated in an
expectation-busting kind of way.
For instance, "Roach Under Glass" is exactly
what it sounds like -- a song about a captured
bug. Yet somehow, it turns into a hymn to
universal love. Milo explains, "I toss him from
the glass. He tumbles in the grass. Goes round
to the shrine. Lord Buddha. His light shines."
Similarly "Pen Pals in Prison" sounds like it
might be a Johnny Cash song, but the prisoner,
we find, is a woman incarcerated for check
bouncing. "Pen pals in prison. They're a captive
audience," we are told by a singer who sounds
a lot like Jonathan Richman. "They only want to
be forgiven for a felonious offense."
Smell the Parade is a David Lynch movie of an
album, too odd to take entirely seriously, yet too
percepti ve in spots to laugh off as a joke. I hope
we hear more from Milo -- and that whatever
he's taking continues to fail to rein him in. ................................................................................ ...............
By Haiko Herden / BACK AGAIN MAGAZINE / Hamburg, GERMANY, May 2002 -- From time to time
we get CDs from bands that are
hard to categorize and that
revive the hope that sometimes
there is something new under
the sun and everything does
not always fit neatly in
drawers. MILO is that type,
although he has not
re-invented music but rather
mixes an infinite assortment
of musical styles together,
which certainly won't find him
a wide audience. Anyway, MILO,
who comes from the states,
Atlanta specifically, is a
so-called Lo-Fi producer,
which probably means he does
not have the money to buy
expensive equipment or rent
expensive studios. However,
there also is a "Lo-Fi" scene,
which is where we will now
place MILO. MILO makes music
alone in his living room,
mixing blues, rock, punk,
swing, country, folk, pop,
indie guitar and German new
wave (If a Yankee effort
counts). This amounts to an
incredible hodgepodge and
jumble, but it definitely has
a curious charm. "Smell The
Parade" is MILO's first album.
It can be found at the
internet address provided at
the top. My recommended track
on this CD is "Cheated Lied
Left" because it is so
beautifully gloomy.
