    Artist History
One of Melbourne's most hated (and interesting) bands, Dr James is mixture of Theatre, Post-Punk, 80's Gothic and Death Rock which has both shocked and puzzled punters who have been unfortunate enough to see this band live. Formed in 1999 with various changing line ups, the band came together as a collective of outsiders who shared the same passion for confrontational art and music. The Doctor, a fucked up walking manifestation of all that's wrong: a rock star poser who is anything but a pin up boy and a poet whose lyrics are too ugly and graphic for the city's more sophisticated arty crowd. Wearing clashing black suit and biker boots and heavy rings, he looks like a jazz musician from a post apocalyptic war zone. While most bands today focus on 'entertaining' the audience, Dr James and the Zero Patient's are more focused on the audience being their entertainment. While most artist try to charm, the doctor tries to intimadate, scaring off those who don't understand but attracting those who do. The music, from the Zero Patient's, provides an eerie soundtrack to these demented festivities. With Kris Dewinski's banshee screams and manic guitar noises (a la early Pink Floyd and Blixa Bargeld) and the thumping rhythm of brothers Zev and Sam Langer (from the death metal band Subterranean). It's probably because of this the band have managed to be ostracised from the Melbourne music scene for their bizarre stage show and nihilistic (if albeit loutish) behaviour (which has caused them to be banned from some their hometown's more well known venue's). In 2002 recording started on their debut E.P "The Dr James and the Zero Patients EP". The concept behind it is "the violent alienation from society and current popular culture". The E.P is due out mid 2002.
