    Artist description
Mr. Mental (a.k.a. Corey M. Roblee) hails from Columbus, Ohio. Born and raised on the Northeast side, his presence has become a staple of Columbus and its music scene. Mr. Mental began his musical career at the early age of 13, mixing tunes with his other "wannabe" juveniles on the home karaoke machine. At age 15, he hooked up with Shane McPherson (a.k.a. "The Joker" or "Joser") to form the rap group "Street Hoodz." The Street Hoodz began professionally recording at Rad-Boy Musico studios with their music/sound engineer, Tim Gay, who also owns Rad-Boy. They collaborated to produce nearly 50 song recordings. Street Hoodz disbanded after two years due to personal issues, and Mr. Mental independently released an 11 track Street Hoodz album (post disbandment) entitled, "The Final Redemption." Immediately following the break-up of Street Hoodz, Mr. Mental began his solo career and hit the studio hard working to release his own solo album. That moment arrived on September 25, 1999. Mr. Mental released his first solo LP, "Enigmatic Puzzlez." The LP contained 19 tracks including guest artist collaborations with Joser, Laureate Tech, J-Smooth, and Adam Chafin. The song, "Down Under," became the albums' most renowned hit and instantly became a Columbus underground musical legend. The album also boasted success with other songs such as "Neighbor'hood,'" "Where It'z At," and "Depression." To date "Enigmatic Puzzlez" has sold over 400 copies. Shortly after the release of 'Enigmatic,' Mr. Mental was offered a management deal from Glenn Toby of Glenn's Grooves Productions. Toby's clientele include the likes of LL Cool J, Don King, Jayo Felony, R. Kelly, and Venus and Serena Williams. Unfortunately, Mr. Mental was not in a position to accept the offer due to financial circumstances... and frankly it was quite possibly the stupidest thing he could've done. Mr. Mental also created a bit of controversy in the Columbus area when his advertising and album promotions resulted in the albums removal from certain area record stores. Apparently, a minority of upstanding Ohio citizens was offended by some of the ads' "coarse" language and launched an attack on the stores that carried 'Enigmatic.' Certain once-respected record stores gave in to the pressure and removed 'Enigmatic,' however other free-speech supporting stores did not. The controversy received local media attention from two major newspapers and a TV news station. The near-disaster actually boosted Mr. Mental's album sales! Since the release of 'Enigmatic,' Mr. Mental has "slowed his roll" a bit. He graduated from The Ohio State University in June of 2001. He has performed at many local venues, produced new material, and released an underground album called "Unedited & Unreleased," which is only available from Mr. Mental upon request. The album features many songs that did not make the cut on 'Enigmatic,' or were produced for other reasons such as friends, loved ones, and family-related issues. The album also features new tracks that were slated for a new album, but have been postponed from production due to extenuating circumstances. The albums' most popular song has to be the "80's Tribute to Butt Sex with Chix." It too, has become an underground sensation as it was produced for play on the "Howard Stern Radio Show." The song satirizes 17 different 80's tunes and re-words them all to relate to what else? Butt Sex with chicks, baby! A must hear... In addition, 'Unedited' contains "Trash Talkin'," which features the new flavor of Mr. Mental's hardcore hip-hop lineup and the DJ skills of local wonder, DJ Eyamme (a.k.a. Aaron Hohwald). Mr. Mental has recently taken up a new project with former Street Hoodz partner, Shane McPherson, as well as J-Smooth in Shane's home studio. No telling what new material these three will come up with... however; Mr. Mental is back in the saddle and looking to begin work on more solo work once again. Until then...
