Artist History
The Sunrise thing started around 1994. It's basically the collaboration of two like minded
souls bent on producing strange sounding noises - Andy Grant (Dj, drummer and Sound
Engineer) and myself Andy Teasdale (ex-guitarist, Sound Engineer - That's me in the
photo, taken at The Sunrise Musical Laboratory, West Wales).
Growing up in Liverpool, both of us had been involved in music for some time before we
started working together, from the commercial, hooky, ads-pretending-to-be-art stuff they
try to tea ch you to make in school, brass bands, through to juvenile thrash metal /
industral bands. We started working together simply because we had similar tastes in
music and we didn't really know anyone else who was trying to knock out dance stuff.
That's whe n the magic began. We tended to experiment a lot in the early years, producing
very trance-like chill-out tracks that usually ended up being around 20 minutes long, and
putting 90 minute tapes together in just an evening. Things have changed now though,
w e've honed our skills, and the music benefits, even though everything takes that little bit
longer. Quantity and Quality are two opposing forces after all.
Times have also changed, I've moved to West Wales, while Andy G. remains in Liverpool.
As with all long distance relationships, it's hard to keep things together. So we're working
via the net (in other words, slowly). And our communication system is riddled with
glitches, but we like adversity - it forces us to evolve...
And now we're setting up a label, blackearthmedia.co.uk - and producing music for other artists, such as Dharmadas,
Co-Conspirators, The Telemeres etc. It's all quite exciting, like a waking up to a new dawn... wS |
