Artist History
Lead vocalist Martin Xavier and drummer Bobby Kourelis formed Lovehammers during their high school years in suburban Chicago. Dino Kourelis, younger brother of Bobby used to hang out, make up funny lyrics, and sing goofy shit whenever he could. Martin taught Ben how to play guitar, and jammed every night in Ben's garage until his dad would throw them out. Dino finally saved up $200, and bought a used bass. The name "Lovehammers" came from one of Bobby's study hours with Penthouse Forum - use your imagination. The Lovehammers grew up on the influences of Led Zep, Crue, police, G 'n' R, Social Distortion, Van Halen, U2, Pearl Jam, among others.
With the four members going off to college, they continued to perform at local clubs and parties, where they stole guitarist Willy Sawilchik away from another local band. Since then, the Lovehammers have been continuously writing/producing new music. Their latest sessions with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Bush, Pixies), allowed the band to feel and create their own sound. Starting with a "vibe," their songwriting process is continuously developed by sparking off each other. As on stage, the Lovehammers' music is about creating energy, building up momentum and pushing it in the right direction.
The band's perseverance and hard work have garnered them several awards such as "Lucky Strike Band to Band Combat" national contest winner amongst 500 plus entrees, featuring them on the back cover of Rolling Stone issue 846, August 3, 2000. They were also a runner-up in the 2000 John Lennon songwriting contest for "Rain on the Brain," and voted one of the top ten unsigned bands in America, by Mars Music.
The Lovehammers typically sell out their Chicago shows to 1,500 plus, and have sold over 14,000 cds on their combined effort of Ultrasound, L'STRANGE, and How We Live. This can be attributed to a grass roots crusade with help from their fans and street team that call themselves "Hammerheads." The Lovehammers have opened for such national acts as: Nickleback, Tantric, Lifehouse, American HiFi, and were invited to play on a leg of the Warped Tour 2000 & 2001.

Press Reviews
"With their traditional rock songs and singer Martin Xavier's occasional passing resemblance to Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott, the Lovehammers have created a guitar-rock record that is both classic and contemporary. L'STRANGE is a stellar introduction."
