    Artist History
Cascades of ethereal voices are drawn. A mixture of ancient and electronic sounds in shading atmospheres takes you into a world of dreams and visions. La Danza de Shiva is a symbol from India and represents the cycles of creation and destruction of everything that exists and remembers us that our existence is transitory and ephemeral. Influenced by this idea, Isabel creates a series of images and personages who move to the rhythms of the dance of creation and destruction of Shiva. The music of La Danza de Shiva is the first project in solitaire of Isabel Ruano. After rambling by several years in the rock scene, Isabel decided to move to the outskirts of Guatemala City, to an Encino’s forest. Inspired by characters of the forest and mystical experiences she began to develop the melodic games that gave life to the songs of the CD, equal titleholder, La Danza de Shiva. The music was made with the idea to create vocal melodies to trigger sensations. Then, layers of sounds were added, until culminating in an ambient work, which Maurice Echeverria (elPeriódico, Guatemala, Dec. 8th, p.18) summarized like this: "And there are them: the artists who mainly have in mind an atmosphere when doing music. This is the case of Isabel Ruano and her new EP. A gaseous space of five songs and one mathematical musical formula: the very dense auditory linen cloth behind, opposed to the acute and transparent voice of the singer, who invents adherent melodies, frizzed and tripped." La Danza de Shiva appears in small venues, where a ritualistic atmosphere can be induced and that allows to privacy and introspection. The concerts in the 2001-2002 included the Bodeguita del Centro, El T'zijolaj (Guatemala, Guatemala) and La Mocha (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala). The musical experience of Isabel Ruano takes to a series of styles jointed by a personal search. After being vocalist of Disidentes from 1992 to 1996, rock band that crossed Guatemala and El Salvador, Isabel integrated several choirs of old music (medieval), soon to approach electronic and ambient music with Celtic influences. The first EP of La Danza de Shiva deals with dreams, imaginary beings and mystical experiences. El Caballero del Tiempo rides in the fantasies he never makes, fights against ghosts that do not exist, until he’s gotten tired and surrenders to the death. Despertar de Naufragar is the yearning for clarity. Tiempo Eterno is the relation with the rest of elements that exist and the sensation of nontime or eternity. Gotas de Sal, describes the relation with the water: slowly and violent. La Hechicera Miel, is a female, magical, delightful and challenging personage. The production was finished with the collaboration of two well-known Guatemalan producers, Fernando Scheel and Ranferí Aguilar and also the English producer, Igor (Frank Fripp Productions). In the end, La Danza de Shiva is an experience, a contact with an energy that maintains the life inside and outside us through the movement of a cycle. In words of Isabel Ruano: "Some moments of the songs suggest such grandiosity, that when sang, cause that sensation of unit with a very intense force" (Interview at Edición-Limitada, Radio Universidad, San José, Costa Rica, Feb, 2002)

Maurice Echeverria. elPeriodico
