Artist History Longplayers is founded in the summer of 1999 by Bart Knol (Trigg) and Stephan v.d. Bos (Le Tyer) After making music for a few years on their own, they decided to combine their forces to create a formula which brings all kinds of progressive dance-styles together. With this formula they won the Grote Prijs van Nederland (category dance) in 1999. After this the band has expanded with Vocalist Martin Hilkhuysen and live-drummer Mathijs Beukema. Since then the group performed in much different locations in Holland (like Paradiso, Dance-valley, Metropolis, Melkweg) and got some promotion on national TV & Radio.

Press Reviews Recensie Fret Longplayers - Bad thoughts on a Sunny Day (Eigen beheer) De commerciële mogelijkheden voor breakbeat zijn in Nederland nihil, toch is het een grof schandaal dat de winnaars van de categorie Dance van de Grote Prijs van Nederland uit 1999 nog steeds zonder contract zitten. Het zal de reden zijn voor deze promotie-cd, want naast 7 sterke nummers bevat het schijfje ook nog foto's, de bio en filmmateriaal. Nu maar hopen dat er wel iemand wakker wordt. Aan het geboden materiaal hoeft het in ieder geval niet te liggen, want het tot kwartet getransformeerde duo blijkt met 'Bad thought on a Sunny Day' tot de top van het Nederlandse dance-segment te horen. Overigens doet Longplayers niet alleen aan breakbeats, maar is het juist de kracht van de Delftse formatie dat het allerlei stijlen door elkaar mengt. Tof plaatje dat zowel op de dansvloer als in de hersenpan de boel goed op zijn kop zet. Platenbazen aanschuiven! (rb) Recensie OOR (Bad Thoughts on a Sunny Day) Het in eigen beheer uitgebrachte Bad Thoughts on a Sunny Day van de Longplayers is een stuk lichtvoetiger en toegankelijker. De band won in het jaar van oprichting 1999 gelijk de Grote Prijs van Nederland in de categorie Dance. Begonnen als duo (toetsenist en scratcher) is Longplayers inmiddels uigebreid met een MC en een drummer. Hun repertoire klinkt -op een enkele uitglijder na- fris, zeer compact en volwassen. Longplayers zal met nummers als Comin' on Strong en Guerrillaz op geen enkel Dancefestival misstaan. (Eric van Splunter)
