Artist description
Formed in 2002 by rock singer-songwriter Mark Dee Duda and multi-instrumentalist Jason J-Rock Mischel, The Handful creates distinctive, original rock music. Contemporary rock with a nod to the classic rock masters.
After stints together in several NYC rock bands and countless live performances at downtown NY clubs such as the legendary CBGB, Dee and J-Rock, as they are known, decided to try something different. That is, to form a contemporary rock band rooted, not in grunge, nu-metal, or punk, but rather in the classic rock tradition of their favorite records. These were the kind of records they had enjoyed and aspired to since meeting at the age of 12 in junior high school. These were the days when WAPP and WNEW ruled NY rock radio.
"If rock music is truly to have a renaissance, then we believe it must be rooted in the finer influences of the genre - the classic albums: The White Album, Led Zeppelin II, Dark Side of the Moon, Skynyrd’s Second Helping, Who’s Next, Exile on Main Street, Eat a Peach, DP's Machine Head and the trippy prog-rock of the 1970's."
These and many others have influenced the handful, and provided the musical incubator from which the handful was born. It is in this spirit that, with humility and reverence, the handful have created Palmistry.
"The music is truly in our own style, but clearly influenced by the rock music we grew up on - classic rock, hard rock, prog-rock, and the 70's singer-songwriter movement."
Behold the handful. New original rock music in the finest tradition, more than a generation removed from the masters. Young, updated, fresh and prepared to carry the torch.
