Artist History
In the span of little over a year the Squabs have scratched a niche that is bound to leave a scar the Twin Cities music scene cannot hide. With a sound reminiscent to the dirty 70's pre-punk stylings of the New York Dolls and the Stooges, the Squabs have quickly gained a fanatic following by sharing the 7th Street Entry and Turf Club stages with the likes of national acts Betty Blowtorch, Zeke, and Alabama Thunder Pussy among countless local bands.
After playing in several local bands Kevin Carroll and Michael Rumore (vocals and guitar respectfully) formed The Squabs in early 2000, after rounding up drum-rock superstar Bart Klassen and friends Jet Odrerir (guitar) and Victor Stuhr (bass) the band debuted at the 7th Street Entry / First Avenue in August of 2000 and have played the Twin Cities relentlessly over the last year earning a reputation for reminding the listeners what rock & roll used to be, and why it feels so good to have it back.
The fall of 2001 sees the independent release of the Squabs debut CD, which accurately recreates the over-amplified sullied-sheen of sonic-bacchanalia that powers their live shows. Recorded in a warehouse in St. Paul, the Squabs enlisted help from producer Tom Garneau, whose credits include Prince, Sting, and locally Likehell to name a few. The Squabs welcome you to turn it up and enjoy yesterday’s sounds, today.
Update:
It is with our sincerest regrets to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of lead-vocalist Kevin Carroll, October 31, 2001.
UPDATE 9/30/2002: The Squabs are pleased to announce the addition of frontman Rich Peterson to the flock. |

Press Reviews
D.A.M. Foundation (First Avenue's In-House Magazine): So the keg is fried and the party is breaking up and it’s only midnight. Always on your game, you grab the case of Grain Belt you hid in the downstairs fridge, and emerge a hero. Now the party is in your control, you stagger over to! the stereo and plunk in the new Squabs disk. Immediately there is a new party dynamic; folks start to drink faster, talk louder, smoke more, and get that sex-on-the-brain glazed look in their eye.
We will call it the Squabs factor, these rough and tumble rogues are on a mission to conquer the land with their brand of down and dirty rock and roll. In the same vein and attitude as the New York Dolls and the Stooges; they take no prisoners, pull no punches, and bash fans with pure energy and a white-hot lust to rock.
Led by a leather vested front-man who can turn a phrase and amaze over a twin guitar assault that will shred your cochlea, driven by a mean and nasty rhythm section, their new CD is a 12 song detox ride to beer breath city. Come on down to the Entry and help our boys celebrate, Squab style, you might never be the same. -- Jeff Kupferberg
