Artist History
STAN THE MAN (STANISLAW WOLARZ)
born 1951, Edinburgh, Scotland. Started playing
guitar & bass 1964, by 1966 playing in semi-pro
soul and R & B bands. 1968, emerged from the local
underground scene with The Earth and later with
the still-notorious Johnny Fats Trio in the north
of Scotland.
Moved to London mid 1970's, formed The Warp,
a new wave band with strong R & B influences.
After this fell apart, spent the 80's in
semi-retirement taking time to study History,
Politics, French, Tai-Chi Ch'uan and wine tasting,
travelling as much as possible, including
a period in France 84-85, where in addition to
playing under his own name, he played with
the Johnny Otis, Fats Domino and B.B.King bands.
This period saw the first of many visits to
Prague.
By the 90's he was back on the London blues
circuit with Night Train and Blues Revue, jamming
with among others Alex Dmochowski (ex Aynsley
Dunbar) and Lawrie Graham of the new Yardbirds.
Started singing seriously in this period,
formed own band, Always Blue, with Anne
"Betty" Semper sharing lead and harmony vocals.
After this broke up, started visiting Prague
often, formed Bohemian Blues Band between 96 and 97,
in 98 recording first CD "Liquor, love & lies".
Now based in Prague, in addition to playing all
over the Czech republic and making a number of
radio and T.V. appearances, Stan has performed at
festivals and clubs in Germany, Austria and
Slovakia. In 2000, has also seen the
appearance of two more CD's - a duo album, with
double-bassist Anton Duratny "Two Sides To Every
Story" and with his regular rhythm section and
L.A. based keyboardist Robert Vasicek, "Sound
Like You're Having A Good Time", recorded live at
Prague's Lucerna Music Bar.
