Artist History
Slowhead is an experimental rock band from Washington, DC. These "experimental rock beats" combine the influences of different rock eras into one fluid sound. Oldies and surf rock from the 60's, classic rock and funk from the 70's, and hard rock from the 80's are all brought together in the American rock music of Slowhead. The band came to be in the summer of 1999. Childhood friends Talfred (Tally) Mullings, Jeremy Winston and Bill McShane thought of Slowhead that July night, with fast dreams of the rock n roll life. It was a slow start as practice was severed and spread apart as the three friends were attending different colleges. It wasn't until early 2000 that the true essence of Slowhead was on
paper when Tally began penning their original music. Tally would say, "I knew we needed our own music, because a band isn't great as a cover band alone." Later that spring he wrote and recorded the first
demos of the Slowhead originals. With Tally on lead guitar and vocals, Bill on drums and Stuwart Price on bass, the trio was Slowhead by August 2000. That fall, Slowhead played house parties around Maryland
with an original demo CD on the shelf. Then in early 2001, they suffered their first loss when Stuwart left for the band Outer Body Llama. Jeremy found his way into the band and made a smooth transition from guitar to
bass and by May the band's demo CD was completed. Alice radio, 97.3 FM inSan Francisco gave Tally and Jeremy professional guidance, and told them to build a following by playing live. This would be their ticket to someday becoming
larger than life. So, on July 13, 2001 Slowhead hit the stage and became a staple band at the Grog and Tankard in Georgetown, Washington, DC. Tally and company were coming along strong until they built on that strength one August afternoon. They had no idea
what they were missing until Tally met Brian Flythe. After a few jam sessions, they discovered their missing link and promptly brought Brian on board and the band was complete. Today the four make up the rock band Slowhead. |
