Artist description
Poontwang's original sound was inspired by a
combination the 80's retro band The Pandora's,
early punk bands like the Angry Samoans and
the Cramps, adding the tuff twanging lyrics
of Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. We had
washboards, Big Muffs and Farfisa keyboards.
Mixing fuzzed out guitars, droning farfisa
ryhthms and scratchy, dusty vocals accentuated
by screaming girly harmonies. Over the years
the sound of Poontwang has lost some of the
country elements, added surf instrumentals
then moved on to a more 60's garage and 70's
rock inspired sound. Also, incorporating the
drone of a Moog alongside the Farfisa.
Poontwang's lyrics are toungue in cheek,
girl powered anthems about boys doing us wrong,
(Tuff Skurt, Throw Like A Girl, Planet Suckass)
songs about our favorite animals (Mighty Dog,
Rabid Seal, The Pusses) and of course our most
popular song, about the male anatomy
(Are You Well Hung?) Our live show has
always meant more than just shoe gazing
rock and stereotypical rockstar attire.
Poontwang has had numerous theme nights
including Beauty Pageant for Bad Girls,
with prom dresses, tiarras and badges with
names like Miss Understood, Miss Guided and
Miss Taken; Cowgirl night, Mental Patient night,
with nursing outfits, sirens and mental patient
go go dancers in wheelchairs, Going Hawaiian
night with little drink umbrellas for the audience
. Lately we have incorporated an entire kung fu
choreography into our show and a cheer for
Wayward Touring Cheerleader nights. We are also
known for throwing out treats for the audience
from candy to snowballs to ding dongs, you can
count on getting fed when coming to see our shows.

Artist History
Poontwang was formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist,
Lori Campion with 2 other gal pals back in
Austin, Texas in 1994 after being tired of
playing in bands with guys for too long and
wanting to have fun rocking in a girly way.
Lori then moved back to her hometown state
California and re-formed the band in
San Francisco with new members.
