Artist History
Decent At Best was formed in 1998. Five friends who had been trying to have a band for a few years finally got it right.
It all started in elementary school. The original line up was Ali Rangel-Guitar/vox, Chris Rangel-guitar/vox, Danny Phelan-bass, and Greg Gonzales-drums. Greg never got drums so the other guys had to drop him. Later they met Chris Arrigo and got him on third guitar.
In middle school they met Andrew Melnyczuk and got him on drums. They practiced, but they sucked.
In the summer of seventh grade Andrew moved out of Long Beach into Manhattan. This left the band never practicing, which didn't matter because they still sucked. In the middle of eighth grade Andrew came back and practicing commenced.
After three months of practicing Decent at Best had 9 catchy punk songs to record. They recorded at Lyric Studios in Garden City Park.
The demo is called "Thinking About Nothing" and was sold around town. The kids liked it. Their first show was in there friend Ghia Birnbaum's backyard. The concert went well and they played alongside Bashed In Face.
Chris Arrigo moved out of Long Beach. The rest of the band sadly, and to the shock of all his girl fans, let him go. He started a new band called Offline 88. Now Chris has returned, and the band is thrilled. |
