Artist History
Born in a cardboard box, raised by an alcoholic Elvis impersonator,Phil developed his trademark ' Trem-o-Phonic' sound: twangy guitars, discreet supermarket rhythms, lush arrangements and of course, a liberal dose of good old-fashioned tremolo.
In 2000Phil released 'A Man...A Mood...A Guitar', a nine song CD. The "Trem-o- Phonic" sound is expanded with infusions of cool jazz, swing, bossa nova and even trip hop! Nine great songs, backed by an experienced jazz-rhythm section and featuring Dave Hillyard and Vic Ruggiero from Hellcat recording artists the Slackers and the Rocksteady Seven, as well as DJ/trumpet player Flexx Unger.
Backed by Rick Nair on drums and Artie Bauer on bass, and featuring Tommy Mattioli from Latin Vibes on vibraphone, Phil had a succesful CD-release party in CB313 Gallery in New York City on August 4, 2000. " A Man..." received airplay on the 'Retro Cocktail Hour' ( KANU, Univ. Of Kansas ), "Reverb Central' ( kfjc, Calif.) , 'the Mondo Beyondo Record Party' ( 93.1WAPS, Akron, OH ) and 'Tegentonen' and 'Popscene" ( Stadsomroep Arnhem, the Netherlands ). It also got a very nice review in 'Cool&Strange Music!'magazine. The tracks "Prepared to Let You Go" from the CD reached #4 in the vitaminic.com pop chart, and "Stir-Crazy!' reached #18 |
