Artist description
Subspace is the work of one humanoid (Jonathan Hughes) and lots offaithful machines.Subspace has released 3 CDs:"Signals from Beyond the Oort Cloud" is bestdescribed as a soundtrack for your next trip out of the solar system,"Signals from Beyond the Oort Cloud" is a mix of various types oftechno, with a heavy leaning towards Ambient and Trance, with a bit ofDrum & Bass, and the occasional four-on-the-floor dance groove thrown inhere and there to keep things moving."Fluid: Environmental Sound Modules One Through Ten" is a double CD of mostly non-rhythmic electronic ambiance. The tracks onthe two CDs have been formulated so they work either on their own or inunison. If you have access to two CD players, you can play both CDssimultaneously to create hybrid tracks. If you choose to play the twoCDs simultaneously, you don't necessarily have to play them frombeginning to end -- you can put the players on shuffle and everythingstill works. Played on their own, the CDs contain a total of 80 minutesof music; but by playing them together, 264 minutes of unique music canbe created from the 33 possible combinations of tracks. All the tracksare eight minutes long, contain minimal rhythmic elements, and are inrelated keys, so any track on one CD can be successfully combined withany track from the other CD (although you may find some combinationsmore pleasant than others)."Music from the Soundtrack to the Motion Picture Low Frequency Oscillator" takes some of the pure ambience of "Fluid" and mixes in some repeating minimalism and some downtempo electro beats. |

Press Reviews
This solo electronic project of Jonathan Hughes (bassist for Lotusflower) is music to dream by. Hughes composed, performed, programmed, engineered, and mastered his work, painting images and extraterrestrial landscapes with his musical machines. The aptly titled "Supernova Scene" is background music for star watching. "Solar Nexus" carries on the same way with the unexpected entrance of a solid, melodic bassline adding weight to the composition. "NGC 6543" has the quiet awe-inspiring quality of a Spielberg fantasy. "Bright Sun in Heavy Rain" carries the relaxing, lazy feel of a rainy day. "Translunar Injection" has a light danceable beat, while "vesta" floats on an ethereal groove. Electronica fans will bask in this soothing and grooving ambient/trance collection.
