Artist description
Ambient/Electronic. Stone Idols use Analogue synthesisers,Guitar, Transitional Percussion & other treated sound sources. Each track is approached in a classical manner, constructed to have shape & form, also to have underlying themes or sometimes to reach a dramatic conclusion, often to introduce rhythmic elements at a given choice moment. The result we hope to achieve is to transfer the atmosphere that was felt during the composition of each piece, and to attain something lasting & useful for the listener. |

Artist History
Formed in 1996 by Rob Jenkins & Martin Smith. We recorded our first album 'Reversion' during 1996 which was only released in April 1999 on the Champagne Lake label. Stone Idols has been set up as a slow evolving project, which future albums will have input from other guest musicians. On 'Reversion' Neil Cowley is the guest artist who appears on three of the tracks. Neil is a great keyboard player mainly involved in playing for pop/funk bands such as the 'Brand New Heavies' having not been exposed to much ambient music before, Neil soon found that he could express himself in a new way and really warmed to our then new collaboration. A new Stone Idols album is on the way some time this year we hope. |

Press Reviews
"Reversion" is the debut CD from Stone Idols. Recently founded by Redshift guitarist Rob Jenkins, the music of Stone Idols treads the ground between the ethno/ambient work of Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno and the drifting soundscape worlds of Radio Massacre International and David Torn. Indeed, a broad description, but Reversion is a multi-faceted work and difficult to categorize. Sparsely punctuated by percussive rhythms, the CD flows easily between themes and moods and accurately captures the moment out of which each piece was realized.
