    Artist History
A member of Nashville Songwriters Association International, Johnny Vance is a pop rock singer, songwriter with a flair for writing catchy pop melodies with strong hooks who also possesses an exciting, live stage presence. Johnny had a major label contract with his former band Skin & Bones, produced by Andy Taylor, and is now releasing his own music as an independent solo artist. His debut, full-length CD titled “It’s 2:30 (Where You Are)” is currently in world-wide distribution. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, by his teenage years, Johnny was front man for the regionally successful pop group, “The Vamps”. They opened for headliners such as Joan Jett and Modern English. Realizing the need to showcase his talent in a larger market, he relocated to New York City, where he formed the rock group, Skin & Bones. In 1990, they released their debut album on Equinox Records, recorded at the legendary Trident Studio in England, and produced by Andy Taylor of Duran Duran fame. It featured a stripped-down, but accomplished brand of pop/rock blended with Johnny’s extremely direct vocal style. Media attention brought about record sales that soared throughout Europe, especially in Germany and Japan. After relentless touring across the United States, they released their album Madhouse in 1992. Next, Johnny was offered an invitation to Los Angeles to write and sing for television and motion picture soundtracks. These credits include songs written for The Heights, a FOX Network hit in 1993, and major motion pictures, West From North Goes South and Hell High. Throughout this period of success there were unusual twists and turns that ultimately led him to Nashville. With a straight ahead focus on the fundamentals of great song writing, Johnny is at the top of his game, creating enough momentum to turn out some of the best music of his career. At this time he is receiving international Air Play. In December of 2001 Johnny released his first self-penned, Christmas CD single titled “Thru A Child’s Eyes”. His latest releases include “Acoustics”a 5-song EP (March 2002) and a full-length all original CD titled “I’m No Dummy” (2003). ~ Your Attention Please ~ “Johnny Vance showcases his talent in virtuosity and composition on his latest CD single titled”“American Dreams” Featuring American Dreams & New York Scheduled for Release in August 2003

What I do when I get a CD from my mail Box (And I'm always so excited) is, put it in my car and listen as I drive. That way I have no distractions other than the occasional accident! You know! from ROCKIN" OUT and banging my head on the steering wheel. Well, I didn't do any head bangin' to this CD cause "I'm no dummy" is not head banging music. It's pure pop with a country flavor in a Tom Petty kinda way. Johnny Vance is a pop singer that has a knack for writing songs that you can't get out of your head. When Johnny Vance says, "I'm No dummy, I just play one in real Life" (Song #1 I'm No Dummy) I can relate. Because someone told me once, "If you act like you don't know anything, people won't expect too much from you. Those are words I live by brother. Johnny Vance, now a Nashville resident, was once a member of SKIN & BONES Produced By Andy Taylor of Duran Duran) a sleaze hard rock band from New York. They released their debut album in 1990 on Equinox Records and sold well in Germany, Japan and Europe. He has also worked in motion pictures and TV. This disc will appeal to fans of John Waite, Bryan Adams and Tom Petty. Favorite Songs are: "I'm No Dummy"," How Many Hearts" and "Dream". Bottom Line: Good Lyrics, Sing Along Chorus and Memorable Melodies. Checkout Johnny's website www.johnnyvance.com -Review by -Kman 11/2002 CDSmash.com http://www.cdsmash.com/rr.htm1.htm ----- Johnny Vance has been the singer of the sleaze rock band Skin & Bones which released an album called "Not A Pretty Sight" (produced by former Duran Duran member Andy Taylor) in 1990 and an independent CD called "Mad House" in 1992. I only know the band's first album, but don't remember much of it. Maybe it has really been not a pretty sight. But Johnny's new solo album is a very positive surprise. This time, he concentrates on relaxed singer / songwriter stuff, many acoustic guitars and fine vocal harmonies. No cheap poser rock riffs, but elaborated and mature arrangements. It's a real pleasure to listen to the songs which remind me of Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Joey Tempest, Mike Tramp or Dan Baird. The track "In My Wildest Dreams" is a really fantastic acoustic rock song with huge emotional vocal lines, "Hypocritical Oath" an outstanding semi-ballad. All tracks are on the same high level, some of them (like "Slippin' Away" or "I Still Wonder") feature a unique and warm organ sound. "One Dance (With Mia Farrow)" - when I first had a look at the CD which came without front or back cover, I thought that the song features Mia Farrow on guest vocals, haha - adds a pop punk edge to Johnny's sound. I always liked the Goo Goo Dolls, so I appreciate this influence. Some of the relaxed tracks remind me a bit of the Skid Row ballads. And as you know, Skid Row wrote beautiful ballads. So does Johnny Vance. Almost all tracks have memorable refrains, but my definite favourite is "15 Minutes", which has an irresistible beat and a real cool groove. The CD also features a cover version of the Turtles song "Happy Together", another nice pop rock song. All you rock labels out there (Spitfire, MTM, Frontiers, Perris etc): sign this guy! He maybe is the biggest songwriter talent since Gregg Alexander (who had a huge success with the New Radicals). Contact: www.johnnyvance.com and www.mp3.com/JohnnyVance.Rating: 9Review by: Rage
