Artist description I am from Moldavia, the vineyard-covered eastern part of Romania. I grew up with classical music, later became involved in jazz and new age, but I always felt close to the compelling sounds and rhythms of Romanian folklore. To the horror of my family and the delight of my friends, I kept trying to modify the old family piano. Pieces of wood, toilet chains, metallic foil, or reed pieces were attached to the strings to create new and bizarre sounds. My recent compositions show my affinity with the whole Balkanic space. Romanian influenced tunes blend into Greek sonorities, gypsy-like melodies fuse with Jewish klezmer music.
