Artist History
Electrum was co-founded by guitarist Dave Kulju and bassist Gino Foti in January 1996 through a posting in the National Midnight Star - then the Rush Internet digest and mailing list. The group was completed by drummer Joe Musmanno in September of the same year through another NMS advertisement. The band name was derived from its secondary meaning: an alloy of two or more elements that occur naturally - meant to reflect their many influences, and the eclectic style of music they hoped to create. They agreed to compose original material and to enhance the compositions by playing keyboards and MIDI pedals in real-time to maintain integrity. Instead of playing live or waiting for music label interest like most bands, they decided to self-produce a CD. After Gino built an ADAT-based home studio, and with Dave as recording and mixing engineer, they independently released their debut disc "Frames of Mind" in March of 1998. The disc has received numerous positive radio airplay, and world-wide distribution due to the strong Internet presence of progressive rock fans, musicians, and dealers.
Their second album, "Standard Deviation' is scheduled for a February 2002 release. |
