    Artist description
Progressive-art rock, electronic with a world beat twist. The reason why it is so hard to classify is that the band's music never sounds the same. Each piece has a personality of itself. One might be a guitar driven melodic song, while another may be pure electronic. Key songwriter, Eleni, hates to be limited by genre name and style. She just loves writing. Her lyrics have a sci-fi/fantasy edge to them. If you are curious about the name, they are named after a Science Fiction Novel that Eleni had written (yet never even attempted to publish). Altrua was born from the word, "Altruism." Eleni feels that she doesn't create music only for her own enjoyment but for the listener.

Think of us as a Cornucopia of space-aged wisdom transcending the post-modern chaotic state of confusion. If you can think of an artist in that vain, we sound like them.
    Artist History
The duo has been together for 8 years and is headed by Eleni Muller who is the Songrwiter, lyricist and Producer of the band. She has A B.M. in Jazz Performance and Studies. They started the band when a jaded Eleni was driving to her guitar player's house and a song came to her out of nowhere. She hasn't stopped writing since that day. She often refers to herself as the "accidental songwriter." Eleni moved to Germany in July 2001, so Altrua currently doesn't gig, however the writing continues..

    Press Reviews
Ben Ohmart (Assistant Editor, MusicDish) It's been a while since I've reviewed a DAM (mp3.com) CD, and I forgot how many good bands are really hanging their hats on that site. Altrua speaks 80s to me, and I love that kinda talk. Song 2, 'My Lover's Treasures', is certainly that decade of animal, with its soft-rock, dark-complexion skin that stalks through the night. Complete with female vocals that aren't perfect, therefore they don't sound like anyone else (a GOOD thing!!). 'Sirens' is the 3rd song, a good beat and weird, floating sound effects too low to be identified (savage dogs?). Bouncy retro-club stuff. 3 songs, all over 4 minutes. A fine sampler for what's probably a pretty hip album
