Artist description
Called “the finest voice in modern folk music” by Mike Meyer at KRVM radio in Eugene, Alice Di Micele is gaining National recognition for her unique blend of R & B, jazz, blues, rock, and folk. After a recent performance, Bonnie Raitt said, “Alice’s music has that great combination of earthiness and groove that keeps it funky from the inside out. She’s for real.” Having released 7 recordings on her independent label, Alice Otter Music, Alice has been traveling the country since 1988 making music and developing her strong grassroots following. A relaxed and enthusiastic performer, Di Micele is widely respected for her live shows where she encourages audience participation and improvisation and for her incredible vocal range. Of her songwriting, The Rocket in Seattle wrote “Di Micele’s voice is a high performance instrument that powers finely tuned songwriting like no other instrument could. [Her] CD could stand on the strength of that powerful bluesy voice alone, but because of the quality of the songwriting, this stuff would sound great even if Bob Dylan sang it. Ouch!” |

Di Micele's two sets of mostly original material could be described as daring and triumphant songs of healing and survival, taking the common notion of folk music into original and compelling territory. Whereas many of the folk performances I've attended amounted to one lone concerned citizen working a capo up and down the guitar neck, desperately trying to wrangle another song out of the same three chord position, Di Micele's compositions are expansive and memorable. Her voice is powerful, rich with the tradition of great blues and a distinctive vibrato that's all her own. She is a master of enunciation, turning a string of |
