Artist description
Voxinst represents a contemporary attitude toward the process of artistic aural manipulation. Roots in the skillful performance of acoustic instruments are mingled with programmed rhythms and sounds. The defining characteristic of Voxinst's sound is not so much the use of electronic instrumentation, but rather the successful blend of traditional popular music styles with more experimental contemporary ones.
Voxinst's wide-ranging influences help describe their eclectic sound. Folk, drum n' bass, classic rock, trip-hop, synth-pop, and blues all inform Voxinst's style. To Voxinst, Neil Young is as important as Aphex Twin, Faith No More is as important as Bjork. Voxinst stays open to new modes of expression while appreciating the past.
Though the members of Voxinst often exchange instruments as easily as ideas, they do have their areas of concentration.
Paul Maurer - drums, percussion, backing vocals
Lesley Flanigan - voice, voice, and voice
Postrik - guitar, sequencer manipulation, keyboard |

Artist History
In 1997, a Tampa, FL experimental rock band, Toby, played it's last show and released it's last CD. Four years later, three of the members of Toby reformed as Voxinst. Voxinst retains Toby's atmospheric rock aesthetic, but incorporates an appreciation for some of today's more daring electronic music. |
