Artist History
known to punk afficianados as "the great lost punk band from '76," the spunk lads gained an almost instant legendary status in london. some critics consider the spunk lads to be the true fathers of punk, predating the early success of fellow london punks the damned, the sex pistols, and the clash -- though their influence and impact upon these bands is more than just obvious...
led by singers nick knickers and pop tart and guitarist bloody dick, the spunk lads scored early hits with "have dinner with me," "a wank too far," and "s.p.u.n.k. in the u.k." like many of the pioneers of punk, the spunk lads were frequently bounced from record labels and were later blacklisted from playing in clubs throughout the u.k. and parts of europe. despite these difficulties and questionable management, the spunk lads retained a cult-like fan base despite their underground status. |

Press Reviews
VILLAGE VOICE - Nov. 8, 2001
"If you close your eyes while listening to this faux-British Brooklyn trio, you can come pretty close to convincing yourself that you've somehow, miraculously been transported back in time to an early Clash or Sex Pistols show. O.K., maybe that's pushing it. But (even though their tongues are
pressed firmly against the inside of their cheeks while playing) a Spunk Lads show is, without a doubt, a celebration of that sound -- and that's what makes them so much fun. With Reese, Falling Skyward, Penny, Elsewhere, and the Johnson Brothers." (Switzer) |
