    Press Reviews
TEX LA HOMA "You The Listener EP" Superglider - Beautifully sublime, gracefully floating past a million reflections in a million late night shop windows (whoosh, was that a cliched start to a review or what?). Delicate come down dance/trance with a melancholic post rock drifting sound that rests so easily on the ears. It's reflection, it's inward observation, it's radiant glowing thing of minimal beauty, even the whispered words that should be of despair are glowing and beautifully delicate. It's raindrops, it’s street lights, it's Lou Reed's Perfect Day with Moogs - when they lash out it's like Frog or some Lo-fi euphoria - this state is temporary so pour me another drink - it's being alone. It's one of the most beautifully simple things you'll hear, hey look, I’m sorry to keep telling you about all these stimulating things that land here (I tell you it’s really tempting to be negative and tell you about all the crap, there’s far more bad things than good, we’re just searching through it here and saving you the bother) Contact: Suite 5, Pine Court, 36 Gervis Road, Bournemouth, BH1 3DH. - "You the listener" (CD) Tex la Homa release their first ep for Superglider records, four songs mixing guitars with laid back hip hop beats and electronica. Also available the superglider6 compilation cd (2001-04-23) Tex La Homa - you the listener (cdep) In goes the CD, and woah, this is a change of pace. An air-esque soundscape immediately hits you, and vibrates my sub-woofer like you wouldn't believe. Dreamy vocals, low and deliberate overlay the relaxed loop in the background. This is proper calming, café del mar type music, with progressive beats, and rather trippy. Quite different from the introverted, almost stale music of the previous CD, and into a more introspective experience. There are five tracks on this promo EP, and it's released out from the superglider stable. This isn't something that I would normally choose to buy, but get a gem like this is one of the real bonuses of doing reviews of promos sent in the post. Here we have an accomplished, well-produced, varied, interesting, clever little EP. Styles range from almost acoustic guitar led folk, to dreamy come-down space music. You cannot ask more from these guys, who look to become a little better known than they are right now. Tex La Homa finish the EP with a live version of the first track, and I bet they are worth seeing live; hearing the backdrop zoom from quiet to loud at will really sends shivers down the spine... Anyway, in essence, a cleverly put together little CD, which has surprised me, and will be going into the gissing playlist in future... Looks like my mission is over for now. Better report to my superiors, following a successful operation. Over and out. Rating: 8.5/10 - Chris Gissing Tex La Homa - You The Listener EP Superglider Records /2001 Matt Shaw is the man for behind Tex La Homa. His songs flirt with melancholy. Smoothness and sophistication are also present in the six tracks of this EP. The prominence goes for the reflexive track "Wish". Without a doubt a interesting debut. It is important to say that Matt also pilots the new English label Superglider Records. (Josmar Madureira) 00 VA - Superglider Superglider Records /2001 The English label Superglider Records offers us, some pearls of its cast. Factotum, Betika, Line, Seamonster, Robot Dog and Tex La Homa. Acoustic guitars, keyboards, synthetizers and electro beats construct the compilation's modern atmosphere, ethereal and, why not say it, melancholic. Highlights are the great Betika's "The Bierdigan" and Tex La Homa's "Fallen Leaves". (Josmar Madureira) Tex La Homa / You the Listener EP /(CD) Marrying trip-hoppy beats to acoustic guitars and downcast lyrics, Matt Shaw's one man band, Tex La Homa, offers a beautiful excuse for feeling lousy about yourself. The first words, "What would you have me do?/What would you have me say?/I'm not proud of the state I'm in/At least I can feel this way", begin the five-song EP with an echo from fellow-countrymen Joy Division ("I'm ashamed of the things I've been out through/I'm ashamed of the person I am"). Things don't look up from there. "Cold" rejects reassurance, as Shaw whispers "I'm feeling much worse today/You assured me I'd feel OK/I'm not working as I should/I must put an end to this/I need to end this". The well-crafted music, produced in Shaw's home studio, provides a slight respite from the overwhelming melancholy, as a catchy groove and burbling Moog cloak the rainy "Ordinary Day". The live reprise of "Never Gonna Go Away" is uplifted by the presence of a live band, who increase both the tempo and the volume, producing some much-needed catharsis after a quiet, harrowing journey. -- Delicious! These miniums album of Tex the Homa, making plan head to Matthew Shaw, is simply delicious: they are sure that the fans of the No-Man they will favorably receive this half scant hour of pure celebration of taste and edonismo musical. Placed side by side also You The Listener EP to Loveblows & Lovecries, Matt Shaw has produced four jewels in perfect equilibrium between experimentation and pop from the recognizable in a marked manner British characters, in which dreaming melodie they amalgamate with moderated but a sage use of the sounds and the techniques of recording. You take to the wonderful Never Skirt Go Away as an example, with its soffuso it play arpeggios of guitar that travels light on one ritmica constructed from two distinguished drum traces machine; the David Sylvian of the Surrender pu ò to be a good meter of comparison for this small treasure emerged in surface from the underground of United Kingdom. Ordinary Day ripropone of the similitudini with the repertorio devout ù dance of the pair Bowness/Wilson (I only cite in order to render the idea Only Baby and Break Heaven), while Wish is an acoustic piece that sees protagonists single voice and guitar. I listen of Cold concurs to me instead supporting the hypothesis to place Tex the Homa like one valid alternative to Samuel Smiles, warmth representing pastels crepuscolari landscapes wrapped in the autumnal haze. To close this gustoso EP we find a version from alive of Never the Skirt Go expanded Away regarding the study version until the duration of approximately nine minuteren, with a beautiful instrumental portion where devout echoes of the Porcupine Tree are felt ù acids, thanks to the pregevole contribution of the three musicians who place side by side Matt. In particular drumming elastic of Richard the Jenkins, assimilable like style to the leggendario Michael Giles, and the Moog di Griff gives of the strong connoted ones to the above-mentioned instrumental part. An optimal assay of how much Matt to offer to us à in future, and for that beyond to Tex the Homa they want to discover the other plans of the Superglider label, the council is that one to visit situated www.superglider.com, the satisfied ones or reimbursed...
