    Artist History
Synnah was born on the tiny Caribbean island of Grenada. Having an absent mother and father, he was raised by his grandmother for the first thirteen years of his life. Never once did he let this fact serve as an excuse not to succeed in life, but rather it served as motivation to always excel. At the age of six Synnah was appointed by the elders of his small village to play African drums and sing songs protesting the current condition in his country. He was selected because he was one of the few who played the drums and sang at the same time. Not an easy task. According to Synnah, "People who did not like what we were singing about would call the police on us… When we saw the police bus coming we would run into the woods with our drums… thinking back, that was kinda scary." Maybe that is how he gained the speed to become the fastest Sub junior runner in his country after winning the 200 meters sprint at a national track meet? "No," says Synnah. “ I ran track because someone told me at a young age that I would never be good at sports so I trained hard and in the span of two years I was crowned fastest kid in the land.” Synnah credits his eclectic taste in music to his uncle who was an avid collector of vinyl records. At an early age he was exposed to artists such as the Beatles, Yellow Man, Kenny Rogers, Shadow and Bob Marley just to name a few. When the Break Dancing craze hit the Caribbean he was rated amongst the best. As he stated, " You know you love music if you were rockin' the Michael Jackson jacket in 90 degree weather." In 1983 the political situation in Grenada took a turn for the worse. Synnah witnessed the murder of several of his classmates while attending a demonstration on a fort in the country’s capitol. According to Synnah, he could have been one of the victims if he didn’t listen to the advice of his cousin who told him, " we better not go up there." As Synnah ran for safety he saw bodies falling to the ground through the smoke created by the gunfire. As a form of therapy he wrote his first song in tribute to his deceased friends but quickly burnt it. Afraid that if discovered by the wrong people it could lead to his death. Two years later at the age of thirteen, Synnah migrated to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York, but would soon moved out to the more peaceful Long Island suburb after several altercations with the law. He left a heavily Caribbean populated community who listened to mainly Soca and Reggae music and was thrust fully into the Hip Hop culture. The musical fusion had begun. It was the year 2000 when Synnah picked up the mic for the very first time at a local Soca competition. He rhymed over a Soca beat laced with samples of a Lil Kim track. The result? He placed last in the competition. Several producers told him, " Your style is too unique. The people are just not ready for you, you are 10 or even 20 years ahead of your time." In June of 2001 Synnah recorded the single "Murdah." In the song Synnah jokingly mentions that: "I went to Afghanistan and I trained with the Taliban they full up me throat with sand just to make it thick and strong." This was pre September 11th and few people had ever heard of the now notorious Taliban. Three months later America was attacked. Men claiming to be FBI Agents called Synnah’s home questioning him about the lyrics in the song. This questioning prompted Synnah to write the smash hit " Your Mother Give Me." 2002 rolled around and the Synnah man enters yet another contest in front of over five hundred people. This time he placed first with his Rapso style. Rarely has anyone made so much progress in such a short time. Synnah moved up from last place a year before to King of New York 2002. The late President of Opmuzik, Mr. Richard Holder exclaimed, "This is one of the greatest performances I have ever seen." Bob Frederick of WLIB radio in New York stated, "Your style is very unique and impressive, I am impressed with your work." The CD "phase 3 was released in 2002 and has sold over thirty three hundred copies and counting; gaining airplay in Canada, England, USA and through out the Caribbean. 2003 - Synnah began working on the soon to be released Hip Hop/Dancehall CD titled "Come Play With Me.” Synnah is already receiving great feedback and fans are already salivating to get their hands on this new album. Felicia Newsome, the former studio manager at Bad Boy Records got a sneak peak of the lead single and said, "This is a hot song for the summer." With his Website (www.synnah.com) now averaging over eighty thousand hits per month Synnah’s music is steadily spreading around the world. Downloads of the songs are being sited from places as far away as Saudi Arabia, with the huge amount coming from Japan. One recent Email from Japan fittingly stated " Synnah chi bon" (Synnah is #1) Stay tuned folks; are you ready for the Synnah?
