Artist description
Effusion 35 is the maniacal machination of singer/songwriter Pat Manley.
An original band based in the Philadelphia area, Effusion melds the clean
tone melodicism of classic bands like The Velvet Underground and REM,
with the strong, riff-heavy hooks of Led Zeppelin and Nirvana. As a potent,
4-piece ensemble, this band subsists on the "blistering frenzy/subtle whisper"
dynamic, though rarely in the predictable post-punk fashion. |

Artist History
Lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Pat Manley, born in 1977 as a native of Collingdale, PA, was cultured on a steady diet of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as a result of his parents' affinity for late 60's brit-pop. With an appreciation for the punk approach to songwriting coupled with an adventurous attitude, Manley crafts fresh melodies and intruiging chord progressions.
In 1995, Manley met bassist Sean Hamill as fellow employees of a local restaurant. Hamill, a bassist of a similar musical background, began a collaboration with Manley after hearing Pat's 4-track demo "The Epitome of Boredom" containing rough versions of what were to later become Effusion staples. The two teamed up to perform at a local Fourth of July picnic and later formed the seminal Collingdale band The Rude Mechanicals along with lead guitarist Joe Laudadio and drummer Jimmy Teodoro (most recently of the band Liquid Cloud 9).
The year 1999 brought about transition as Laudadio and Teodoro left the Mechanicals due to "creative differences"; enter drummer Joe Napoleon. Napoleon, a friend of Manley's from a failed earlier attempt to form a band, took the reigns as drummer as the band morphed into Effusion (partially because people confused "Mechanicals" with "Mechanics" and none of them understood cars all that well).
Then, the technical master Randy Robbins joined the band on percussion as Napoleon moved to lead guitar, thereby making Effusion THE BIGGEST BAND IN PHILADELPHIA!!!!!! (by average height). Robbins, a seasoned veteran (just the right mixture of paprika and oregano), added order to the aural barrage with his impeccable time keeping, but, alas, had to leave because of his enlistment in Starfleet.
Luckily, the divine playing of the might J.C. has kept us going, until we find a permanent 4th member.
Effusion, along with fellow Philadelphia band Milton and the Devils Party, aims to help rejuvenate a tired music scene, providing an array of sonic textures coupled with baroque, Radiohead-esque song structures. Even through all of this, the band is able to maintain a uniform, pop quality to each composition.
