Artist History
Originally from New York City, Vanessa Morrison made her way to Missoula, Montana as a 17-year-old with cowgirl dreams. In Missoula, Vanessa found her musical inspiration, singing and playing guitar at open mic nights, backyards, living rooms, alleys and mountain tops. Her penchant for lyrical improvisation won her a growing audience, and her involvement in theater and community action events added to her budding reputation.
Vanessa came to San Francisco in 1999 after a summer-long sojourn in West Africa, working with the Marsh Theater as the assistant director for the award winning SF Mime Troupe. She continued her community involvement as a mental health counselor and school teacher, all the while writing and singing the songs that would become the foundation of her musical career.
