Artist description
The Downtempo, comprised of Singer/Songwriter Keegan DeWitt and good friend Joe Neely, builds songs like stripped down symphonies where each moment builds on the last, sometimes using pieces that came before, and always discovering new ones along the way. The Downtempo shows their intelligence by playing distinctly pop influenced songs while steering clear of over-production and cliché.
From Story and Clark to Out of This, The EP showcases Keegan's ability to bring together piano and guitar in melodic songs driven by soft spoken lyrics that, capture certain moments in time. By it's conclusion, the EP, recorded by Storm Snell of Dimbulb, Dear Secret Diary and CD Forge, is quietly heartbreaking without straying into the realm of self-pity or predictability. Free from contrivance The Downtempo EP tells a simple story, effecting the listener with its tight-knit pop sensibility while shifting so deftly from one section to the next that the listener can hardly pin down how it happened. |

Artist History
Coming from many bands around the Portland area, Keegan DeWitt formed The Downtempo with Joe Neely in early '99. From there, they recorded a debut: "Stillness Makes The Heart Grow Fonder" and Keegan recorded extensively at home. Finally, they reached a deal with Teoria Music Recordings and began work with producer N. Storm Snell on their official label debut: "The Downtempo EP". They are currently playing live, and after a bad split with their label, are looking to find someone supportive and active to release quality songwriting. |
