Artist History Hailing from Poland, DOR LATA uniquely combines Eastern European classical training with straight-ahead American and British pop, rock and R&B. Dor offers catchy, stick-in-your-mind songs delivered with her incredible talent and unique style, freshness and flavor. A child of an opera singer, Dor was sent off at an early age to study classical music and opera training. With only two radio stations in Poland at the time (a news station and a classical station), Dor spent countless hours wearing out her turntable playing American and British pop and R&B. After studying Beethoven and Chopin with her classmates during the day, Dor went home to study Chrissie Hynde, Roberta Flack and Kate Bush. The foundation laid by the classics gave wings to the cool soul and emotion of her pop English-speaking influences. Completing her schooling, Dor went on to perform all over Europe, Scandinavia and Canada. With great success in all kinds of clubs and festivals, Dor decided to take a deep breath and dive head-first into the fickle, turbulent waters of the US music scene. She set her sights on New York City, and hasn`t looked back since. Regardless of her success overseas, Dor knew it would be tough to even tread water here. For an accented, classically trained singer with a passion for R&B and rock and roll, Dor faced the biggest challenge of her life. Would this beautiful, tall foreigner gain acceptance and respect in this city? Dor spent countless hours improving her English and learning the "ins" and the "who`s who" of the local New York music scene. Constantly writing songs and taking every opportunity to let people hear her unfaltering, expressive yet powerful voice, Dor worked relentlessly playing shows at Downtime, Arlene Grocery, Makor, The C-Note and CB`s Gallery. She also sang at many benefits, including Blind Ambitions, The Benefit for Handicapped Children. Finally, Dor was invited to participate in the MTV pilot show in Montauk, where she performed her song "The Only One." The wave is finally starting to swell for Dor. Just completing her debut EP and capitalizing on her growing fanbase, Dor Lata is currently being shopped to record labels and is fast becoming associated with fresh, catchy, faultlessly-delivered pop rock music.
