Artist History
I started playing the guitar at 13. My early influences were Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac, Bread and Led Zeppelin. I saved up enough money to buy a Japanese Les Paul copy at age 15 and joined a local band, Xylus. We did school gigs; the first one I managed netted 1pound 40pence from Morag McCorkindale for a disco and a band. To this day, that remains the highest fee I have ever been paid for a gig. Thank you Morag.
The band drifted apart as we went our separate ways to college. Such hits as “Sanquine Sadie, the lamplight lady” and “Reggae Rock” lost forever. College was drug free. I graduated. I went to work.
I started to play acoustic guitar at a local church, honing my chops from the chorus selection in “Mission Praise”. I dreamt of plugging in and wailing away – while others saw the guitar as the instrument of the devil. We wrote songs, we recorded, and we had fun.
I lost direction – the spiral of booze, cigarettes and a career as a management consultant took me away from my music. Redemption came during the early ‘90’s in the shape of the “Uxbridge Blues Band” and “Oxygen”. Armed with a Gibson Les Paul and a Marshall, real damage was done.
Since then I have been honing my skills as a recording engineer, songwriter and arranger.
Why? At 45, I am none the wiser.
