Press Reviews
Recently released on the Mascot Record Label is Unjust's Thin Line Emotions. A record of uncompromising style, sound and power. Having first experienced Unjust at a recent show, there is always a chance for disappointment going from the live sound to a recorded sound. With Unjust's new album, not only was this not a problem, but their recorded sound keeps the same extreme level of power, cohesion and aggression.
This record runs the gamut of emotions keeping in tune with the albums title. Moving from song to song is very much like walking down the thin line emotions. The dark, thoughtful mind of Paul Mendoza certainly shines through in this effort. Lyrically, Mendoza has captured the often failed task of creating a lyrical world from within without falling into the ultimate trap. Mendoza takes the listener through a windy, seemingly depressed road from the crunch of the opening track to the epic "Stained" through the quick galloping "Rust".
Many comparisons have been assigned to this band, but no true comparison can be rightly made. Combining Mendoza's wide vocal range and guitar duties the extreme crunch of Russell Tabayoyon's guitar with the thundering backbone of bassist Eric Wong and drummer Brian Palkowski, Unjust has uniquely blended heavy melodies with angst ridden barking and quick pace.
Although this album was just released in May of 1999, the scene already begins to anxiously await the second offering from these future heavyweights.
