Artist description After some unfruitful experiments in bands too closed in their taste, Kris Scheerlinck and Jurgen Cobbaut decided, at the end of 1995, to found Sengir. The band started as a death and doom-metalband, but evolved to a sort of melodic gothic-rock/metal. Such an evolution caused many changes of line-up. But now, this turbid period is over and the band has now found a form more stable. Sengir played alongside a number of world-class acts in rock and metal. Succesfull gigs were played on festivals with The Gathering, Immortal, Marduk, Dog Eat Dog and Deicide. The band also figured on different compilations, with Rookies I (released by Watt’s On records) being the most important one. In Autumn Tears, their new opus, one can find influences from bands like The Mission, Lacuna Coil and Paradise Lost. The band plays a mix of gothic, modern rock and metal. Beautiful female vocals, ethereal keyboards and driving guitar rythms are being combined to heavy emotional songs with a hard edge. To give this recording the sound it needed the band worked with Xavier Carion (former Channel Zero). Thanks to Xavier's years of experience at the top of the international metal-scene, Sengir managed to create a new masterpiece in dark metalrock ... .

Press Reviews Sengir –Autumn Tears Verschillende mensen uit de muziekbuisiness attendeerden mij op de belgische band Sengir. Aangezien er van de band nooit een demo naar de aardschok is gestuurd, ben ik zelf op jacht gegaan. En met succes, Binnen enkele dagen lag de CD demo "Autumn Tears"op mijn bureau De demo mag dan niet meer zo nieuw zijn (lees: de band staat inmiddels stuk verder). Sengir maakt op mij veel indruk. De muziek valt het beste te beschrijven als een kruisbestuiving van The Gathering en WT. Zangeres Ellen heeft een onwijs goede stem en wordt bijgestaan door een stel goede muziekanten. De titelsong maakt op mij de meeste indruk, maar de overige songs zijn bijna net zo lekker . De band weet hoe pakkende liedjes geschreven moeten worden. Enige aanmerking die we op Sengir kunnen hebben is dat ze nog meoeten werken aan een meer eigen gezicht , want de invloeden van bovengenoemde bands zijn wel erg sterk aanwezig. Maar mocht ze dat gaan lukken dan weet ik zeker dat we meer gaan horen van deze belgen. Inmiddels heeft sengir genoeg materiaal klaar om een volledige CD op te nemen . Er wordt alleen nog gezocht naar een geschikt label Maar mijns inziens moet dat toch niet zo moielijk zijn. Liefhebbers van bovengenoemde bands moeten zeker voor 400BF/20 FL via onderstaand webadres deze Cdemo inhuis halen. Op optredens betaal je 5 gulden minder voor ‘Autumn Tears’. Anita Boel Aardschok SENGIR : « Autumn tears » To be honest, I must say that I was quite impressed with this « Autumn tears ». By the title alone, you can guess that this is melodic, melancholic stuff. Band’s previous (good) studio works doesn’t prepare the listeners to such a tremendous evolution. Each track is very melodious, filled with emotions and grace, from the ultra catchy « The relief » to the melancholic « Cry before the war ». Guitar parts coupled with key backgrounds are simple yet incredibly effective, but it’s eventually female singer Ellen’s very good voice which really makes the difference. She brightly avoid to sing as most of the nowadays dark metal goddess and try to impose her own vocal style (eventually far from what we get the use to listen to, but in perfect appropriateness with SENGIR’s musical conception). It’s eventually quite refreshing to hear a strong voice that isn’t just another commercial calculation. « Autumn tears » probably won’t impress death – gothic metal fans due to the more rock sound, yet it’s great for those who like their music dark and brightly composed. Sengir - 'Autumn Tears' Stage magazine (eigen Beheer - 3,5/5): wie graag een groep als bijvoorbeeld Within Temptation aan het werk hoort, zal niet bedrogen uitkomen als hij het mooi klinkende schijfje van het Belgische Sengir beluistert. De band bestaat uit zes personen, waarvan zangeres Ellen de meest opvallende is. Op muzikaal gebied bedoel ik natuurlijk. Haar vocale prestatie is meer dan modaal te noemen. Toch klinkt de groep erg hecht en spelen ze alsof ze dat al jaren aan een stuk samen doen. De vier nummers op deze cd klinken gedreven en zijn geproduceerd en opgenomen door Xavier Carion in de MM Studio's. Van dezelfde kwaliteit als onze Belgische chocolade: wereldwijd gegeerd! Hydra When I got this demo from Kris (thanx) the first thing I saw was the great lay-out/artwork of this demo tape. The musically part starts with a keyboard-sound (you think it’s an intro of the next black metal band), followed up by the drums, a little later the guitars and finally the beautiful dramatic strong voice of Ellen Schutyser to complete the sound. A sound which is very close near the Gathering’s Third chance and Adrenaline. But they just do it their own way. They are very powerful in the up-tempo parts. In the slower parts the really get you in the clouds. Just listen to the nice slow part on Cry before the war (2:22-3:52). The second track is a little slower but in the same style and contains a nice drum-break. The titletrack of this demo starts with a guitar followed up by the vocals. The keyboards are on the background, which gives the music more power and raw sound than the first two songs. This is definitely my favorite. Last song is in vein of the first two songs, which gives me the feeling it all sounds the same. That’s a pity, because when you listen to the songs separately they’re all have the beauty of a trinket. So with a little more variety in the future this will be a new acquisition in the land of metal and outside. Because the first song has got the power to enter the playlist on Studio Brussel or Kink FM (two local alternative radio-stations). The keyboards and the female keyboards give the music the atmospheric and dream sound. The bands sounds a bit as The Gathering, After Forever,... . The band has a good balance between the power of the metal and the atmospheric touches. The sound is very good and gives the songs a pretty live feeling. Sengir (info@sengirweb.com) Grindkiller, Bang That Head SENGIR - AUTUMN TEARS (EP) - EIGENPRODUKTION Die belgische Formation Sengir präsentiert ihre aktuelle EP "Autumn Tears" und hinterlässt auf Anhieb einen angenehmen Eindruck. Die ehemalige Death Metal-Formation hat ihren Stil komplett geändert (wie heutzutage nicht gerade außergewöhnlich) und fabriziert nun wunderhübschen dramatisch-melancholischen Gothic-Rock mit Frauengesang, der nicht selten an die Band "Inkubus Sukkubus" erinnert. Nun denkt man sich: "Hm, eine Newcomer-Band, die schon anfangs ihren Stil wechselt? Was soll das denn geben?" Jedoch sollte man nicht vorzeitig Schlüsse über die vermeintliche "Stil-Unsicherheit" ziehen, denn die junge Band hat ihre Richtung offensichtlich gefunden! Die äußerst bezaubernde Stimme von Mikrophon-Schwingerin Ellen lässt nicht nur Männerherzen höher schlagen! Die vier Tracks bieten eine abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus Up-, Mid- und Slow-Tempo-Songs und läßt die eben angesprochenen "Inkubus Sukkubus" oft alt aussehen... Mein besonderer Favorit, der Opener "Cry Before The War", sowie die restlichen drei Stücke ("The Relief", der Titelsong "Autumn Tears", sowie "Hydra"), glänzen außerdem noch durch wunderbar einfallsreiche Texte, die einen kaum glauben lassen wollen, dass hier tatsächlich eine blutjunge Newcomerband am Werk ist! Noch dazu ist die Produktion derart ausgereift, wie es sich eine solch neue Kombo nur wünschen kann! Also, wer vor unbekannten (aber sicherlich bald namhaften), neuen Bands nicht zurückschreckt und sich nach dieser Kritik überzeugt fühlt, sollte sich direkt Stift und Zettel schnappen und die unten stehende Kontaktadresse notieren!
