Band History
Root Philosophy is a four-piece rock band from South
Orange, New Jersey. Starting on Labor Day 1998, Bryan
and Patrick got together with Ed after already playing
and writing for some time; even playing with another
guitarist (Steve T.) at one point. Meeting him
through a mutual friend (Joe S.) Ed later agreed to
join the duo to for what would be the beginnings of
Root Philosophy. After playing for about a couple of
months without a singer the band later recruit Joel
who'd been a close friend of Ed's. When he found out
about "Ed's new band" he said: "Yo, hook me up," and
thus the four pieces came together.
After going through a few name changes (Occam's Razor,
Violent Acts of Conscience, etc.) the band settled on
the name Root Philosophy, which has its origins in the
titles of works by Alex Haley and P.F. Strawson.
After forming the final quartet in mid November '98
the band played their first show at the Cove in
Roselle, New Jersey on April 8th with Scurvy and
C.O.A. Since then Root Philosophy has been constantly
writing and performing wherever and whenever they can,
and so far they've played such venues as C.B.G.B.'s in
NYC and the Birch Hill in Old Bridge, NJ. In addition
to all the shows, the band has put out a seven track
sampler project "Self Titled" which is available at all of their
performances. The full length self-produced and self-released CD album "Evidence of Presence" has recently been released.
They’re currently working on organizing a tour. |
