Artist History
We started out in the spring/summer of 1999.
Gunnar(guitar) and Jonathan(guitar) had been
playing togeather for a while and had been trying
to put together a band. Gunnar knew Lars(vocals)
who sang with Bethzaida and played him some of his
material and Lars liked what he heared so they started
a prodject together. Jonathan liked what they were
doing and joined in. Lars knew Terje(drums) whom
he played with in Bethzaida and wondered if he would
like to join. Terje heard the materal and said yes.
Lars also knew Kenneth(bass) and asked if he liked
the music and would like to join. Kenneth wasn't
quite sure but decided to give it a try. After a
few practices decided he liked it after all and joined.
In Oktober 99 Bethzaida were going to play a concert at
UKA 99, Norways bigest culture festival. But something
happend so they couldn't play. So Lars said he had
another metal band that could play insted. The promotes
said ok and Obumbratas concert was to be a bit of
a trial by fire. Lars came to the next practice and broke
the news and we were all a bit horrified and not quite sure
if we could pull it off. But after a bit of descution
we realized we had to rise to the challenge. So we
set about practicing the eight songs Gunnar and
Lars had written for their prodject and a couple of cover
songs. The concert went off quite well. We were quite
pleased and so it seemed were the audience.
In January 00 we were kicked out of the practice room
we shared with Attrox because they had to start
practicing for their upcoming tour and album. That left us
stuck without somewere to play for 12 months.
Practice rooms in Trondheim are very hard to come by!!
We got a lucky break when Terje when someone who
knew someone who had a place. We jumped at the chance
and it turned out to be a great place. So we were
able to start up again. In the meen time Kenneth
had finished his M.A. and had moved to Oslo which
left us searching for a new bass player. Lars had also got a
new job in Oslo. Kenneth recomended a guy he had played
with before. He acctually played guitar but if was wurth
a try. So we sweet talked him in to coming and having
a try. And after a couple of practices we had a new
bass player by the name of Kjell Åge. We had then started
to plan a demo and decided to start recording as soon as possible.
The drums were, during the course of a weekend,
recorded at our practice room with Jonathans home studio.
Luckily Jonathan is a trained sound technitian so he
knew what he was doing, which saved a lot of fiddeling aroud.
All the drums were done in single takes, which was amazing.
We then recorded the rest at Jonathans place during Easter 2001.
Lars had come up from Oslo and we managed to finish
all the recording during that week. In September 2001
Jonathan finished the mixing and mastering at his home
studio.
