Artist History
IF YOU THINK LENNY KRAVITZ ROCKS A ROOM...NEYCHA RIPS IT AS IF SHE HAD A PAIR OF TWO TON BALLZ!!
Get ready to go to the next level. Imagine Grace Jones, Jim Morrison, the RZA, Jimmi Hendrix, and Al Green all in one jam session and you'll know what to expect on her debut album release, The Dirty Side Up.
Think you've heard this musical construct before? Think again. Just when you've fallen easily into a mental construct of what you think Neycha and her music might be about, she flips the script. Neycha attributes much of her musical style to the aesthetic principles of raw hip-hop production and the creative expression explored in 60's and 70's psychedelic rock, funk and experimental jazz.
It is inside this sacred space that she has cultivated a language and music that is uniquely her own, and her live performances create the backdrop for what she has described as a moving contemplation. The acid hip-hop anthems for which she is perhaps best known are not your typical run of the mill songs, rather they are a blazing set of hypnotic grooves that document the journey of the soul, laced with a musical tenacity that will exist well into the future.
In the long tradition of artists such as Prince, Sly Stone, Grace Jones, and Annie Lennox among others, Neycha's primary interest lie in honoring her individual artistic freedom while continually searching for innovative ways to speak with her own voice. And this dynamic voice paints across emotional landscapes with an effortless flexibility that moves from moaning aggression to bird humming beauty, and coupled with Neycha's lyrical depth, it's hard not to be affected.
Neycha writes and produces her own material and has been performing with her band in New York City and surrounding areas since 1998. She oversees her production company and independent label while continuing to write songs for publishing, film and theater.

Press Reviews
TimeOut New York:
"Move over Kid Rock, there's a new American Badass in town and her name is Neycha...a ballsy sistuh. Her music is loud, aggressive, in your face, soulful, dusted, nasty, sexy and wild. And we love it!..her truly original and aptly titled CD, The Dirty Side Up. (Lucy Kool)
"
TRACE Magazine says, "Neycha is one of Four Soul Singers You Need to Know About. Now!...Like a Bobbito Garcia set, when you think Neycha is hip-hop sould, she gets funky, when her music seems acid-jazzy, it becomes rock - think Ani and Alanis, Erykah and Lauryn, No Doubt's Gwen." |
