Artist description
Jump Street was organized during the summer of 2000 by Springfield keyboardist Ed Kenney, formerly with local band the Groove Daddies. Ed wanted to try a more straight-ahead blues style, with a walking bass on the keyboards. Rounding out the band are drummer John Turner, Guitarist Rick Meadows, and Saxophonist Tom Handy.
John Turner is a veteran of the local blues and rock scene. Besides Jump Street, Turner also plays with Just for Kicks. As a drummer in demand, he also occasionally gigs with local bluesman Springfield Shaky and also Oysters Rockefeller .
Rick Meadows is the most recent addition to Jump Street. A regular in the local blues circle, Rick has most recently performed with the blues band "Talk of the Town". Rick's smooth guitar style and jazzy riffs are a great addition to the lineup.
Saxman Tom Handy has studied saxophone with Jim Boitos at Illinois State University and also with the late Jerry Troxell at Sangamon State University. He played in a few local bands during the late 80's and early 90's, namely Full House and The Guilty Boys. With his tenor sax he delivers the excitement that only a horn can give to a blues outfit.
This band promises to be an exceptional addition to the live music scene in Springfield.
