    Artist description
Smit-Haus is a modern rock band based in New York City. The band reflects its influences: the lyrical hard rock of bands like Weezer, The Wallflowers, Matchbox 20 and Third Eye Blind and the syncopated rhythmic stylings of groups such as The Police, Queen, 311 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Smit-Haus is poised to release its second album this Fall, entitled *break.

    Artist History
Smit-Haus was founded at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in the Fall of 1996 by vocalist/bassist Chris "Smitty" Smith and guitarist Martin Small. Originally a band devoted to classic funk covers of the late 60's and 70's, the band moved to New York in 1997 and began frenetically writing original funk/rock music, resulting in their May 1998 debut album "Basement Funk," which the band produced and marketed independently. After playing clubs and colleges up and down the East coast for more than a year, the band regrouped and refocused its attention on writing. The band was joined by Brian Griffin on drums and Sam Albright on saxophone. Tad Kinchla accepted what was to be only a temporary assignment on the bass with Smit-Haus before leaving to join his brother and life-long friends in Blues Traveler. Smitty assumed duties on the bass and the band’s sound subsequently took on a decidedly more rock flavor, but maintained much of the groove which permeated its earlier efforts.
