Artist description
The reason I call myself ORBITMANN is because I am an explorer, and I like to try new things with music and try to be innovative. If I could, I would be like Captain Kirk on Star Trek and surf the Galaxy seeing things you could never see on Earth. Which is the concept of this EP Velvet Songs From The Galaxy. It is just where my imagination led me. |

Musical Influences
My Influences are the Beatles, The Doors, David Bowie, Elvis, The RollingStones, Pink Floyd, NIN, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, US, Radiohead, INXS, Metallica, The Cure, Guns & Roses, Tori Amos, and Bob Dylan who are all so different, but at the same time so influential for different reasons, and from all these people I have learned alot little by little. From when I first picked up the guitar to now and in the future I will always grow with my music, and be the musician who expresses my lyrics, plays my melodies, and emphasizes my dymanmics and moods. |

Artist History
My real name is Adrian Bencomo, and I have been playing guitar for 12 years, and writing songs for 9 years. I started out as a lead guitarist going back to high school and grew up in El Paso, Texas where music was a rescue for how boring it was, and since then music in general has been a necessary outlet.
I went to Cornado High School with a lot of musicians who later moved to Austin or got national exposure with a label. Among those were Blue Sanders, a local Austin musician who goes by Blue. John Moyer who plays bass for Union Underground, a national act, members of At The Drive Inn, and Pete drummer for UnLoco. These are just people more exposed.
I first moved to Austin in 1993, rode the bandwagon with Soak, Scoutmaster and Bag, which was my way of experiencing the Austin scene. I then decided to form my own project called Orbit The Vine and this is when I started utilizing my singer-songwriter skills in more of a heavy-rock sound, and this was difficult. The main difficulty was that alot of the material revolved around my ideas, and alot of people liked those ideas, but the stability still gets lost becuase of a struggle that is created by a new vision that all of a sudden always came out from many musicians who through time developed an attitude or a new direction that came with Trend.
New Trends always hypnotize musicians it seems along with the patience or belief in what the art is. The fact that I do not have a business mind and the fact that I am an artist not a business type person made this difficult.
For the past 7 years I collaborated with several musicians who were part of OTV some longer than others. Among these were John Moyer, now bassist for Union Underground, Danny Phillpott now singer for 28mph, Steve Roh as bassist, co-writer who is now a computer tech. Jeff Eldridge, guitarist who is now just a working man who loves motorcycles. Christian Galakis who is in a cover band, and Mike Poulos who is now a student living in Houston, Texas just to name a few. The final line up was myself, John Elkins on Bass and Steve Boothe on Drums. As a trio we played our last show at Nastys on Saturday 10-13-01 where we decided to break up just as we finished an album that was never released.
As a musician I never could make up my mind which position I liked best, but I have done alot from lead singer, to lead guitarist, Rhythm guitarist, singer-guitarist-frontman, and evern bassist, but could never play drums...I am too lazy I guess, and to this day I am comfortable just being a singer songwriter all on acoustic. It is just easier, until I get an itch to rock out again...which could be tomorrow..heh!
I have written about 40 songs or so over the years in all styles, Pop, Punk, Rock, Metal, Grunge, Alternative, Progressive, Meloncholie, Folk and even comedy experimental stuff. I have only collaborated with a few people on lyrical ideas outside of OTV, such as Jesse Clem who I co-wrote witrh on Butterflies a song that OTV recorded, and Steve Roh who I co-wrote with on “Free” which got 3rd runner up in the SXSW KLBJ FM Schmooze fest and happens to be on of Johnny Walkers (KLBJ FM DJ) favorite local tunes.

These are all things I learned from my influences, and experiences, and these are the things that made me my own artist.
