Artist description
Sitting alone at her piano, a tapestry of images spilling from her mouth, singer/songwriter Monica Mancillas writes and performs with the conflicted spirit of her generation. Rich with colorful metaphors and vibrant imagery, her songs are at once a study of human nature and a mirror into her personal stories of love, transition, seraching, and elf-exploration. While her lyrics are deeply emotive, the unique resonance, power, and clarity of her voice compliment the sensitivty that she exudes as both a performer and songwriter. |

Artist History
Born in Ensenada, Mexico to parents deeply immersed in the movement for social change then sweeping the globe, Monica, like her music, was the product of worlds colliding and lives in transition. The daughter of a proper English girl raised in a small mining camp at the base of the Andes and a poor Mexican boy who left it all behind to follow his potential, she was an artist from the start, raised on dreams and inspiration.
Like most of her generation, Monica's path was paved from the twin pillars of love and loss, from which she found consolation in books and music. An ardent overachiever, she began playing the piano and singing at the tender age of six, and soon found that she could combine her love of learning wiht music when she began attending the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts at the age of twleve. It was a lifelong marriage from which she drew the inspiration to follow her unique talents into her future successes.
Today, Monica is a complex and intuitive artist whose ever-evolving identity and search for independence are reflected in her words and music. Rich with universals, melancholy reflections, soaring melodies, and jazzy harmonies, her songs are both memorable and laden with moments of unique inspiration- each a microcosm of the times waiting to touch and heal. |
