    Artist History
Born in Paris in 1976, Chahine [transl. = Royal Eagle] spent his youth traveling between Europe, the Middle East and North America. Influenced by musical styles ranging from blues, rock, thrash metal, classical, jazz, pop, hip-hop, ragga, reggae, world beat, rai, funk and acid-jazz, his debut as a professional singer and proficient guitar player took place in Saudi Arabia with 'Anatolia', an oriental rock band covering social and political themes. Their first album entitled "Moods", which was accompanied by a year-long tour, was successful in attracting the public's attention. However, Anatolia's budding success was not without hardship. In November 1995, the band was imprisoned for several weeks as a result of political repression and censorship. Chahine was eventually released by order of the Prince's daughter. Following his Middle Eastern life and music experiences, Chahine moved to Paris and then to Montreal to study computer programming & mechanical engineering at Concordia University. Shortly after his arrival in Canada, he ran into his old friend and bass player from high school in France, Henry-F Gelot. Coincidentally, Henry had been studying business at Concordia in Montreal since 1995 while actively running the Indi Hip-Hop label '4 in Da Morning'. Anxious to collaborate together again, they formed a ten-piece band managed by Henry ("Family Groove"), blending funk, acid jazz and oriental music. For two years, the band engaged in a rigorous and intense schedule of composing and rehearsing, but only played two official gigs [03/99 - Rialto, Montreal; 07/99 – Charlevoix, Quebec] . While the band's vision had been one of longevity, the focus and energy needed to maintain "Family Groove" as a solid unit eventually took its toll on its members. In September 1999, lead men Chahine & Henry decided to dissolve the band. Without any regrets they turned the page, ready to embark on their next musical endeavor together. It took two years of refocus, writing new material and fine-tuning past musical compositions and arrangements to get to where they are today. Chahine's official debut and release of his album as a solo artist is currently scheduled for 2002/2003. The richness, simplicity and beauty of Chahine's vocals and sound enhanced by G-Records' stunning production will touch a cord in everyone's musical being, both internationally and at home. While Chahine's unique sound caters especially to a more mature audience, it will be equally accessible on the commercial market.
