Press Reviews
With all the metal and hardcore in the Bay Area, Nebulous is one of the few bands that can play alternative music and get away with it and form a big fanbase. Consisting of Vignesh Ram's vocals, Sam Pura on guitar, Bill Capogeannis (Now Chris McNulty) on bass, Mike Kania on turntables and Jake Fouts on drums, Nebulous experiments with soft melodic rock and faster, heavier music. Not being a big fan of turntables, I started listening to the cd with a negative attitude towards them, but I was surprised when I truly heard how they were put to use. Mike Kania doesn't over do the turntables, but instead keeps it laid back and uses it in the perfect time in the perfect way. Vignesh's vocals are truly an asset to the band and enhance the music giving it a much more melodic feel. The guitar work is simple and extremely fitting. It's not over done giving the music a lot more structure and space for the vocals to take over. You'll be surprised how original the drum work is when you hear Jake's drumlines. The drums are very unique for they break out of the generic beat by not pounding the snare every other second but giving other drums a chance to shine. In Maya, Jake plays a whole portion of the song in a very laid back method similar to Tool's Danny Carey. Bill's bass lines are very simple and are not very emphasized by being kept in the background.
Nebulous is a whole new genre by itself and is certainly one that deserves a lot more recognition. The album 'Lost Words' is a great debut album that gives you over 50 minutes of non stop rock.
