If they had to put a name to their music it would
be *Kosmic Funk Americana* (funk, hip-hop, roots,
rock, reggae, and blues), but their performance
should speak for itself. One strength of GNS is
their ability to compile fans of all persuasions
(B-boys, Deadheads, Funk Junkies and more) and get
everyone dancin'. |

Artist History
The Great North Special is a Vassar College-based
band that has been playing for over two years in
and around the New York area. Recently they’ve:
headlined at the Spring Jam Festival at Hampshire
College; embarked on a Spring Break Tour of Key
West, Florida playing several gigs including
Barefoot Bob’s and the world famous Green Parrot;
played at The Living Seed in New Paltz, NY, The
Rhinecliff Hotel, Rebar in Manhattan, and opening
and playing with Lyricist Lounge artists Punchline
and Wordsworth in Poughkeepsie. See them regularly
at Mathew’s Mug on Vassar campus and at Bard
College and New Paltz. |

The band is comprised of musicians hailing
from Key West to Boston to Harlem to Oregon:
James Brown on saxophone, Terrence Harris
(Mercury) spitting rhymes, Evan Haskell on drum
kit, Adam Krug on keys and vocals, John
Montavon-McKillip on bass, Luke O’Neill
(aka Phil Harmonix) on vocal/MC duties,
and Darvey Santner on guitar and vocals. |
