Artist History
It’s hard to forget that his real name is not “Drummerfield”. Dubbed Drummerfield by a high school buddy, Tim could probably go back to his home town of Coos Bay, Oregon and have his name legally changed… but what’s the point? The fact remains, either drumming or rummering, he is still known to family and friends, or clients and cohorts, simply as… Tim. And that’s okay by him.
Tim’s passion is drumming and self education toward piercing the ceiling of excellence in his craft. He strives to communicate to his audience the heart of the message in the music through atypical tempo rhythms and an intense performance style that’s all his own. He doesn’t just keep time… Tim inscribes it. With rhythms that flow from his emotions, he beats out a melodic theme that resonates with the collective soul of his audience, and his mark is felt and well received.
At the age of thirteen, Tim started playing in bands and performing all the venues Coos Bay had to offer. The pleasure he derived from these experiences became almost intoxicating. As a performer, he was hooked. It was this intense and spiritualistic communication with his audience and his passion for drumming that ultimately landed Tim in Seattle.
In 1983, Tim studied music at South Western Community College, enhancing not only his technical ability and knowledge of music, but also honing communication skills he would utilize in collaborating with other artists. He considers himself fortunate to have studied in clinics lead by top musicians, including Robin Ford, Stu Ham, Carmine Appecia, and Tony Coleman. The most inspiring idea that Tim gleaned from these experiences was the affirmation:
“Play with your heart and support the music… there’re plenty of other times you can show off…. And love what you’re doing!”
With layovers in Eugene and Portland before finally arriving in Seattle, Tim worked on development of several original music projects. In Portland he played at the Roseland Theater with the headlining band Torrid, later that year recorded their demo at Spectrum Studios.
In 1995 he played the Summer Rock Festival at the Melody Ballroom with the headlining band Tongue ‘n Cheek. Tim recorded two albums with Tongue ‘n Cheek. The first was a compilation CD recorded in 1993 at Paradise Studio, Index, WA., Bill Grabowski, producer. The second album “Uncut Keys” was recorded at Desitrec Studio in Portland, Ore., a collaborative self-produced effort. In the Seattle area, Tim has played numerous venues. While with the band 3SKS, they were the opening act for the Church at the Fenix, and they also opened a show at the Catwalk for the national gothic band Attrition.
Tim’s most recent appearances have been with Cindy Lang, at Folklife 2001, Cirque de Broadway 2001, Mt.Baker Bluses Festival 2002, and Battle of the Bands 2oo2. Once again he is doing what he loves most… developing an original music project in collaboration with artist’s who sing and play with their hearts… and love what they’re doing.
