Artist History
The Neversummers formed in Edmonton in early 1998 as a folk duo combining the talents of Michael Huber (vocals, guitar) and Brent Sasaki (bass, vocals). In the autumn of 1998, Mark Benson (drums), and Scott Zubot (violin, saxophone) joined the group, prompting the band to explore new musical directions utilising this unique instrumental lineup.
The band has opened for such acts as Captain Tractor, Bif Naked, and The Watchmen. Additionally, Zubot and Huber have performed a roots-oriented acoustic set at various venues.
The Neversummers have ventured into the studio twice, first recording a three-track demo CD with Phil Anderson at Powersound Studios in February 2000. In May, the Neversummers were awarded a Mother’s Music-sponsored recording scholarship, prevailing over 100 other acts and were consequently awarded three days of studio time at Powersound Studios working with acclaimed producer/engineer, Nick Blagona (The Police, The FooFighters, The Tea Party, David Bowie). The resulting songs, "Mal" and "Disappear", were subsequently mastered by Nick Blagona at Metalworks Studios, Toronto.
All members have extensive formal training and bring unique and esoteric influences to the group, including classical, jazz, folk, indie-rock, pop, funk, and country, resulting in a unique sound with a distinctly Canadian feel. Three of the members were raised on the prairies of southern Saskatchewan, a factor influencing the musical direction of the group. The stark solitudes, deceiving complexities and dynamic nature of the prairies are reflected in the band’s decidedly organic songwriting.
The Neversummers are currently engaged in preparing material for a full-length album to be recorded this year.

Group Members
Mark Benson - drums, percussion
Mark began playing by drumming along with Beatles and Rolling Stones records. Formal study fostered an interest in various other styles including jazz, funk, orchestral, latin, and traditional highland snare drumming. He is presently studying biology at the University of Alberta.
Mike Huber - guitar, lead vocals
Mike began playing guitar with big band jazz. He quickly found a passion for creating and vocalizing more personal music. His varied folk and rock influences combine to form a unique guitar style with strongly melodic-based structure. He recently completed his degree in economics.
Brent Sasaki - bass, vocals
Brent began playing guitar in elementary school; this passion later led to taking up the bass. His melodic approach to the bass effectively drives the songs.
Scott Zubot - violin
Scott started playing violin at the age of five and has studied classically for fifteen years. His excitement for jazz was realized as soon as he picked up the tenor saxophone in school. He has brought a unique style of play to the music which includes both classical and jazz influences. He is presently studying music at the University of Alberta.
